LAURA’S WAR
What a delightful interview Katie had with Laura. One cannot help but listen intently when the first lady of TV news speaks with the first lady of the country.
When asked about the conditions in Iraq, Laura, ever so sweetly proclaimed that it was just that the photographers were only taking pictures of the horrible stuff. Really most everything was just peachy- keen there.
The country was being rebuilt under her husband’s direction. Schools and streets and homes were filled with happy, smiling Iraqi grateful to Bush for saving them from the terrible dictator.
We wondered about the women of Iraq. Did Laura have any idea of what her dear hubby had done to them? Before Saddam had been overthrown, women were encouraged to study, have a profession and work outside of the home. They could drive; they could choose whether or not to cover their body with a black abaya and their head with a black scarf.
Iraq was one of the most progressive Middle East countries in its treatment of women. Saddam advocated women’s full participation in the culture. Now Iraqi women say life has become unbearable. It is “just like being in jail, I can’t go anywhere”.
They believed Bush when he declared that increasing women’s rights was part of the democracy being created in Iraq. It made them hopeful of greater equality with men.
But have we been misled by the reports from Iraq? Are the many stories about women’s loss of equality and personal peril just figments of some scribe’s imagination?
If things are truly so fine in Iraq as Laura believes, wouldn’t it be just ducky if she and her two daughters would go there to lead the women of Iraq into the light that has been denied them?
Laura could open or supervise schools for women all over the country. The Bush daughters would roam the countryside as examples of the equality of women in a democracy, thus giving hope to the entire nation.
Of course those nasty photographers would have to be banished so there would not be any more killings or beatings or bombings, but that could be managed by presidential edict or a signing statement.
And wouldn’t that be a super Winter Solstice present for every living thing on our planet?

LEXIS CRAPSIS
For days the media has buzzed with the aftermath of a popular comedian losing it; his shouting and cursing at members of his audience was too common to be noticed, but he was lambasted because he used the n-word.
Ever hear any rap? The n-word that is prohibited from being said in public runs rampant in this music. African American comics belt it out constantly. It seems it’s not wrong to say the word; the wrongness comes from who says it.
This is nuts! If the word is so hurtful and harmful to a minority group then why do many Blacks use it among themselves, seemingly without censure? If the word wasn’t heard so often perhaps then it would not come so readily to those who should not say it.
Likewise we agree that complaining about the use of the word bitch and all the other words used to denigrate women has done little good. In fact, many times the worst offenders are women themselves. BUT, there is no derogatory word used against women, needing a letter to be expressed, that is not acceptable in this male controlled society.
When have you heard someone say “s-word”, the “b-word” etc? No, and you won’t. Sitcom characters routinely refer to women using these offensive words. Racism = NO NO; sexism = OK. We hear them on TV talk shows where Tucker Carlson actually encourages his guests to use them. We almost expect it on the Radio Shock talk programs. Blogs reek of repulsive terms for women.
If not the disgusting words, there is always the nastiness such as these comments by Rush Limbaugh and Joe Scarborough.
My "cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life” …she "comes to me when she wants to be fed," and "she's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually [a] very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it." - Rush Limbaugh
Joe Scarborough said, "[W]e're getting so much politics on The View. Shouldn't this be a program at this time of the year about how to make Christmas balls out ofpopcorn and pine cones?" Media editor Rachel Sklar replied to Scarborough's statement by saying, "I'm just going to forget you said that," Scarborough added, "[I]t is a dayside show for women ... come on."
This selective word-crap presents an interesting problem in the coming presidential elections as a white female and a black male are expected to run for that office along with a multitude of white males. We can be sure that neither Senator Clinton nor Senator Obama will use such words or letters against each other but the media, led by Huffington and Tucker will excoriate Senator Clinton.
Even the most sedate newscasts will resort to innuendo and frat boy jokes about Senator Clinton and women in general. Then they will eagerly watch for some really gross stuff from other sources to quote in their programs. A favorite game – “we didn’t say it, they did”.
But rest assured there will be no use of either the f-word or black culture innuendo used against Senator Obama. And there shouldn’t be. There shouldn’t be similar word-crap used against women either. #

GAMING THE NAMING
Step right up everybody. Anyone can play. The Game’s afoot! Just be sure you don’t disqualify yourself by repeating any of Bush’s names over the years.
That’s right, freedom lovers, there has been something happening in Iraq for several years. For a long time, the situation was named by the Bushies with the media parroting his every permutation.
Of course you remember the early ones. It was the War to capture Saddam’s Weapons of Mass Destruction. It was the War to liberate the oppressed Iraqi from their evil dictator.
It was the War that would be paid for by Iraqi oil. It was the War to win over there so we didn’t have to fight over here. It was the War to punish Saddam because he was friends with Al Quaeda.
It was the War against terrorism; the War against the Threatening Storm; the War that had no parallel with Vietnam; the War we must win at all costs and The Mission.
There have been suggestions and whispers that the situation in Iraq is an all-out Civil War. NBC is actually, finally, openly calling it that despite furious protests from Bush.
He rants that he is never leaving until he wins. He insists that it is not a Civil War at all but a “Foment of Sectarian Violence, fomented by Al Quaeda”.
Our intelligence agencies insisted and still insist that Al Quaeda is responsible for less than 2% of the problems in Iraq. Of course most of the military in Iraq assure us that we are winning.
If your choice of names for the Iraq debacle is “Bush’s Fault War”, has that made any difference in the massacre over there? It surely has here. Our Constitution is being shredded.
A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removed a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq' name=c1>SEARCHNews News Photos Images Web' name=c3>Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.
A successful protest was mounted by the resident and the association recanted, but that threat is always out there preventing many from truly naming Iraq as a war crime and insisting that Bush stand trial for committing it.
So what is your name for what is happening in Iraq - IN YOUR NAME? Bush is surely responsible for committing war crimes by his invasion of Iraq but what is being done by Americans to stop him?
Nothing! Instead a great big cover up is being perpetrated on the American people. The administration and its poodle press are putting the blame and the name of the slaughter on the Iraqi people while Bush slides out from under his mess unscathed.

NIPPLEMANIA
Again with a [woman’s] breast fiasco! Enough already! We suffered through the ignominy of the Janet Jackson’s peek-a-boo nipple which tarnished the otherwise pristine purity of a football game.
How dare she interfere with beer and erectile dysfunction commercials? What a horror to dilute the gyrations of nearly naked cheer leaders. What was she thinking putting sex into a male grunting contest?
Well, yes, we did survive it – just barely. Fines for showing such degusting things went up and TV people put in a longer time delay so any naughty thing that turned up could be squelched before it went on air to contaminate the public at large.
Now one of those pesky trouble making females has had the temerity to haul out a breast – that’s right, a breast – in an airplane full of decent people and start to feed her baby.
Of course the flight attendant had to enforce the rules of her male superiors and force the mother to hide this atrocity or leave the plane.
Can you imagine anything so disturbing to the other passengers short of a terrorist threat? Of course not, it surely is akin to someone lighting their shoe on fire.
We are so civilized that our fashion now presents women with overflowing breasts or bras that sculpt them into mounds that are indistinguishable from a nuclear plant control building. Anything breastwise is OK to show, even encouraged, in any amount, except a nipple or a portion thereof.
Stephanie Miller constantly speaks of her “lovely lady lumps”, on Air America Radio. Apparently this is her effort to defuse the male fetish of staring down the front of her dress. Who could really want to look at lumps since they are so intimately associated with breast cancer?
Her effort to educate is wasted as most males just don’t get it. It may be genetic, this nipple thing. They will bare their boy breasts, replete with nipples whenever they wish and allow other males to do the same.
This is despite the fact that in overweight America there are many males with breasts that would fill a double D cup, with nipples that doubtless match the size of their amygdala.
The reason for this breast exposure discrimination, we are told, is to keep women safe from men’s uncontrollable response to jump their bones at the sight of an errant nipple.
This might work as a reason if it weren’t for the fact that women are raped and savaged everyday who are fully covered and obviously not “asking for it”. So there must be another reason or is it obvious?

AUGEAN NIGHTMARE
One of the tasks Hercules was given was to clean the Augean stables. Now on the face of it this might not seem so great compared to the other tasks he was commanded to perform.
But these stables housed thousands of cattle and had not been cleaned for eons. Herc’s solution was to divert two rivers to flow through the stables thus providing a huge source of organic fertilizer for all who lived downstream.
Our nightmare for six years has been Bush and a Repugnant Congressional majority. But our major Augean Stable [and there are many] is Iraq.
Happily, we the voters have diverted one major river by electing a Democratic majority, albeit, subject to the whim of Joe Lieberman, who may yet show his true colors and lack of humanity.
Now we all must seek to understand why this majority will not and cannot do exactly what each of us thinks is mandatory. Sure it would be great to impeach and send Bush back to Texas in disgrace but it is not only impractable, it is impossible.
Months of hearings and proof would have to happen. That would mean not doing the long overdue Nation’s business and it will take all the effort our legislators can expend just to accomplish this as they will have to fight the Bushies all the way.
We voted to clean up the Iraq situation but first we must openly give Bush the credit for lying us into a preemptive war. Even as word of our majority reached the rest of the world, overtures to help are arriving from other nation states.
Now that lame duck Bush is without his majority, the World sees us as worthy of trust and respect and we must live up to that. But, it means that we cannot just send in boats and bring out our forces. We have to clean up the mess Bush started.
Our newly elected majority has a Herculean task and cannot please everybody who voted for them. They are working on the most important already such as port and boarder security, minimum wage, putting a stop to Bush’s rape of the Constitution and his giving the country away to China.
We must be the second river. We need to give them room; get off their backs. Just remember that although Bush always has the media backing him up, the same media is already engaged in picking scabs of disagreement among Democrats.
Today many in America have turned away from Bush’s Iraq mess to rave about a nutcase who has made a movie to shock and disgust. Borat has put man’s nastiest sides out there for the approval that laughter gives.
One scene shows drunken college men defaming and dehumanizing women – under the influence, the true feelings of our sexist society escapes all bounds.
This mirror held up to us should teach, not entertain; should reform, not make us eager for even more horrible exposures of hate. This attitude is foul and muddy. It indicates that we need some powerful rivers of public effort to clean up our own act to say nothing of Iraq.
Until then, we are a second or third rate banana republic, proud of our little dictator, Bush and ready to elect a Bush clone, John McCain in ‘08.

JENNY RULZ!
Ok, go ahead and gloat. Savor the defeat of the Elephants - BECAUSE THEY WON’T DWELL ON IT. Even before the election returns were in, they were planning on how they could trip up the Donkeys.
At the same time they are planning for winning back the seats they lost and winning the next presidency as well. They already sent talking points to the media via their cronies, getting the great exposure that comes from the media coverage of the elections.
As the House fell to the Donkeys these Elephant shills were sniping at Speaker-to-be, Nancy Pelosi in thinly veiled sexist terms. On CNN, gambler, Bill Bennett commented not once but several times that she would not become Speaker.
He maintained, each time as if reading from a prepared script, that as soon as the old and newly elected BULLS arrived in the House they would not tolerate her as leader.
And as expected, Chris Matthews repeatedly made remarks on Hardball that she was shrill and she had California values which the other House members would not go along with.
Most women get the code speak. Calling a man a bull means the woman is a cow – which is a very derogatory name that angry, sexists men give to women. It is bitch raised to the 3rd power.
So those of us with good will must fight back. With words, e-mails and fierce determination we must establish that the female donkey is called a Jenny and that bull is just a prefix – four letters follow it.
And shrill, of course, means emotional. The inference is that women are too emotional to be leaders. Despite the petulant, whining, foot stomping fits Bush exhibited at the post election press conference, not one of the reporters will call him emotional either in fact or in code.
For more direct hurtful and descriptive comments against Speaker-elect Pelosi and the women of the House and Senate, trust the Elephant’s talk shows to constantly savage them with the material already in their anti-woman lexicon.
The Senate especially is known as a boy’s club and duly elected women senators still have to fight to be allowed to participate. No longer must they be forced to go along to get along.
It is not enough that we have tossed out the harmful majority; we must ever continue to be vigilant to what these women must face. Show your opposition to hair and makeup descriptions that are always applied to women.
We must not only pledge our support, we must actively give it.

At the same time they are planning for winning back the seats they lost and winning the next presidency as well. They already sent talking points to the media via their cronies, getting the great exposure that comes from the media coverage of the elections.
As the House fell to the Donkeys these Elephant shills were sniping at Speaker-to-be, Nancy Pelosi in thinly veiled sexist terms. On CNN, gambler, Bill Bennett commented not once but several times that she would not become Speaker.
He maintained, each time as if reading from a prepared script, that as soon as the old and newly elected BULLS arrived in the House they would not tolerate her as leader.
And as expected, Chris Matthews repeatedly made remarks on Hardball that she was shrill and she had California values which the other House members would not go along with.
Most women get the code speak. Calling a man a bull means the woman is a cow – which is a very derogatory name that angry, sexists men give to women. It is bitch raised to the 3rd power.
So those of us with good will must fight back. With words, e-mails and fierce determination we must establish that the female donkey is called a Jenny and that bull is just a prefix – four letters follow it.
And shrill, of course, means emotional. The inference is that women are too emotional to be leaders. Despite the petulant, whining, foot stomping fits Bush exhibited at the post election press conference, not one of the reporters will call him emotional either in fact or in code.
For more direct hurtful and descriptive comments against Speaker-elect Pelosi and the women of the House and Senate, trust the Elephant’s talk shows to constantly savage them with the material already in their anti-woman lexicon.
The Senate especially is known as a boy’s club and duly elected women senators still have to fight to be allowed to participate. No longer must they be forced to go along to get along.
It is not enough that we have tossed out the harmful majority; we must ever continue to be vigilant to what these women must face. Show your opposition to hair and makeup descriptions that are always applied to women.
We must not only pledge our support, we must actively give it.

WATER-BOARDING FOR JESUS
We got a lot of religion as youngsters growing up in a small rural community. There was Sunday services and Sunday School following that. Thursday night prayer meetings every week and summers filled with Vacation Bible School.
But try as we may, so far, we have not remembered hearing or found anything about the plus or minuses of water-boarding or other torture that was advocated by Jesus.
Now the reason we are seeking this connection goes back to when Bush first ran for president and stated that the person he most admired above all was Jesus Christ.
Since then he has claimed and professed that his decisions are absolute because he prays; he gets his orders from Christ so we reviewed connections between Jesus and water.
And there were quite a few. Outstanding among them was his ability to walk on water – not the frozen kind, mind you, real water. We know that at least once he placed water directly onto people. To demonstrate that a leader should server her/his followers, he washed the feet of his disciples with water.
He turned water into wine but never, as far as we could discover, did he force anyone to drink it. His message seemed to be one of peace and good will toward humanity. His capacity for tolerance was enormous, even toward those who tortured him.
So yes, he did have personal knowledge of torture from the treatment he received, especially when he was nailed to a cross; and we know he got violent when the corporations of his time plied their trade in the temples of worship.
But, after due consideration, we submit that George Walker Bush had/has no knowledge or communication whatever with Jesus. His most admired mentor or mentors may be found for all to review in the pages of Deuteronomy, for example in Chapter 11.
“23Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
“24Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
“25There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.”
Torture and mayhem runs rampant in these pages, along with war, the mass killings of babies and women and men along with specific instructions as in Chapter 12.
“2Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
“3And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.”

OUTED BY OUR PARADOXES
A phrase one hears quite often during pre-election discussion is, “common wisdom”. According to common wisdom if a candidate does this then that happens.
We also are told that the electorate is sick of the fighting between the two major political parties. The want them to get along and pass laws that benefit all Americans.
Many people are raving about Barack Obama because he speaks of “one America” – not red states and blue states. Common wisdom says that he has become a rock star and that the adulation of the people can sweep him into the White House in ’08.
We are often told that people do not like negative advertising; conventional wisdom is that negative advertising works. One thing for sure is that it works for the media in that the media loves contentiousness.
It sure works for the ad itself in that if the media loves it, it will play it over and over again ad nauseum, saving the candidate tons of money and getting wide dispersal of the ad.
We are told that people do not want to see ads that are racist or that show a person’s disability, yet their very unsavoriness and disgusting bad taste give those ads wings and tons of air time.
These are not examples of a multiple paradox. These discrepancies just show us what humans really think and how they vote, not just what they say. That’s why polls should not be relied on.
The fact is, conflict is king during elections and most other activities humans engage in. In sports a home run or a touchdown may thrill the crowd but nothing brings it to its feet and causes delicious pandemonium like a fight among the players.
We may say we don’t like nasty ads but they are the ones that get our attention. They are the ones that prick our interest and make us think. They are the ones that conventional wisdom says WORK!
Although males may get turned on by pornography, it is the rough sex that appeals the most. Their ultimate turn on is watching two women fight – howzat for chivalry?
Billions are not spent to teach peace and build up countries and people but trillions are spent for war and destruction of countries and people.
Crowds don’t gather for awarding citizens for community work; they gather by the droves at fires or accidents. We have not moved very far from the days when a public hanging was a delightful sport that everyone loved to participate in.
Today violence is de rigor on TV drama, news and even comedy sketches. No wonder kids bring guns to school and shoot teachers and other students.
We have enough problems without pimping for our paradoxes. A little self-recognition would go far toward not only winning elections but also making us fit to be the Party in power.

GOOSED, McCCAIN SAUCES THE GENDER
Google back to the 2002 election where Senator Max Cleland was running for reelection to the Senate. In case you missed it, Cleland is a veteran who lost three limbs to war.
The Repugnuts smear and crud machine went after him with the vengeance. He was labeled a traitor in ads showing him morphing into Saddam Hussain.
The ad was reported by the media as news with little or no criticism of this despicable tactic used against a veteran who had given so much and suffered so much for his country.
Now fast forward to the present. The media’s hero and favorite politician, John McCain, a born again liar and far from straight talking, joined the other Repugnuts in blaming President Clinton for North Korea’s bomb test.
Senator Clinton, who knew attacks would come to her about her husband’s administration, responded immediately. She corrected McCain’s so-called facts clearly and publicly.
Typically, McCain took the low road in reply. On CBS’s The Early Show, he was asked why he would blame the Clintons for North Korea. He said, he “was responding to attacks made on President Bush by Mrs. Clinton, Senator Kerry, Senator Reid and other Democrats.”
Maureen Dowd, columnist for the NYTimes wrote, “This week, he [McCain] managed to attack her three ways in one sentence: as a senator, as a wife and as a future opponent.”
Of course Senator Clinton’s staff responded, linking McCain to Bush’s failed policies and adding, “People were enamored of his independence, but now he just seems like Bush’s windup toy, the obedient corporal.”
One adviser brought up a comparison of the way McCain looked on the CBS program to how he did when he gave up his crew mates in Hanoi. The media jumped all over that. The media makes it clear that that a war hero cannot be made accountable. Of course, it doesn’t apply to Senator Max Cleland – he is a Democrat.
All this points up the Repugnut’s ‘strategery’ to put the blame on Bill for everything. It keeps the Clinton name out there covered with the mud of their lies. And since this country is rampantly sexist, it appeals to men whose mental development is still in diapers.

IT AIN’T OVER TIL…
…the fat schemer says it’s over and Karl Rove is still out there working the spin. Don’t get complacent and think like Alec Baldwin who said, “You can lie to the American people… but you diddle one Page … and it’s over.”
The blogs and groups are alive with the sound of chortling about the polls favorable to Democrats. But polls can change in an instant; they can turn around and bite you in the ass in November.
This is not your mother’s election. All Bush needs is another nuclear threat and North Korea steps up to the plate. If that falls through he’ll doubtless put on another terrorist attack to blame on the Democrats.
Surely you have heard the crooked talker, McCain, blathering about how President Clinton is responsible for what North Korea has done for the last six years.
The voting areas and equipment all over the country are susceptible to Rove’s chicanery. Are the Democrats on guard? Have they enlisted an army of geeks to monitor the voting machines both within and outside the polling places? Are phones and wireless covered?
Now at this crucial juncture, many of us are wondering what has happened to Air America Radio. Since its birth it has been a bastion of Liberal/Progressive talk bringing hope and humor to all of us in the hinterlands.
This still may be true in some places but up here in Northern Vermont and New York WTWK Talk is abysmal. It is on air sporadically. It may start anytime after 7 AM and abruptly goes off air just as Rachel Maddow comes on at 6 PM. Often a commercial is played while the programming is going on and there seems to be no one in the station when one calls them.
WTWK used to be so great that we told undecideds and even Repugs about it. Many enjoyed it as a fresh change from the right wing crap of Imus, Rush or local Conservative talk.
Now these people are calling to ask us if this is the way Democrats would handle the government; that is, start out great and then peter out in the face of a crisis.
We hear they blame it on lack of sponsors but the right wingers seem to get along OK or are they faking it and the GOP is really footing the bill? We also heard Al Franken say on a TV interview that AAR would probably fold up. No reason given, no further comment.
Could it be that the GOPers have mounted a boycott against any company that advertised on AAR? Certainly is the kind of thing they have pulled off in the past.
Whatever the reason for AAR’s hideous performance, Rove doesn’t need to provide an October Surprise – the Democrats will providing their own if they allow Air America Radio to falter and die.

What an uproar! The media, the Democrats, the Republicans, the Blogs, the whole country is focused like a laser beam on some House Pages and a dirty old man.
Yes, it’s a terrible thing to sexually assault anyone. It is especially heinous to sexually assault children. Pedophilia is the pits of human actions. But stand back and look at this situation and ask yourself if we are truly against perversion.
Why is there outrage now that it is teen age boys? Where was the outrage when many women were raped in our military schools and by our own male forces in Iraq and Afghanistan? Not to mention our own forces rapes of women and men in countries we occupied.
Where is the outrage as we imagine [since we are not allowed to view]the rows of flag draped coffins of young men and women that Bush sacrificed in a preemptive war and where is the outrage at the unseen tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi dead, wounded and displaced?
Where is the outrage at the continued violence against these people because of the Bush preemptive invasion? Where is the outrage that we are not safer now but have spawned generations of terrorist worldwide?
Where is the outrage that Bush and his cadre not only permitted torture of prisoners but also sent them to other countries to be tortured even more?
Where is the outrage that Bush lied and lied and lied and the media still say “MISLED”?
Where is the outrage at a media that mostly just sat back and went along with a “good old boy they’d like to have a beer with”? Where is the outrage that now belatedly these same media are huffing and puffing as if they really were beginning to report the truth and do their job?
Where is the outrage from the many falling fig leaves exposing the scandalous conduct of the Bush administration where trusted officials of government sold out their constituents for free trips and girlies?
Where is the outrage that A.G. Gonzales has ordered Judges NOT to find Bush guilty of anything – otherwise they are unpatriotic in a time of war? Where is the outrage at the loss of Habeas Corpus?
And where is the utter horror and outrage that our Congress passed a bill that prevents us from holding Bush responsible for his crimes here at home and all over the world?
Where ever it is we fervently hope it appears in our voting booths, strong and decisive, in November.

Where is the outrage at a media that mostly just sat back and went along with a “good old boy they’d like to have a beer with”? Where is the outrage that now belatedly these same media are huffing and puffing as if they really were beginning to report the truth and do their job?
Where is the outrage from the many falling fig leaves exposing the scandalous conduct of the Bush administration where trusted officials of government sold out their constituents for free trips and girlies?
Where is the outrage that A.G. Gonzales has ordered Judges NOT to find Bush guilty of anything – otherwise they are unpatriotic in a time of war? Where is the outrage at the loss of Habeas Corpus?
And where is the utter horror and outrage that our Congress passed a bill that prevents us from holding Bush responsible for his crimes here at home and all over the world?
Where ever it is we fervently hope it appears in our voting booths, strong and decisive, in November.

WE GET IT!
Enough already, Arianna Huffington! We get it. You hate the Clintons. For all the time you have published your blog and even before in your columns, you have consistently taken every opportunity to trash both the former president and the New York Junior Senator.
Well of course you have every right to your opinion but stop pretending to be a Democrat/Progressive and own up to what you really are and why you have a blog. You hate the Clintons. You want everyone to hate them. You want to bring them down.
We do not know what happened in the past to create and nurture your hatred. Did they snub you in some way? Did Senator Clinton wear the same pant suit you owned? Did Bill fail to cuddle with you?
Whatever it was, for the country’s sake, GET OVER IT if you really want to help the Democratic causes and get Bush et al the hell out of office!
Go back to being a Republican if you can’t stop your bloviating against the Clintons because nearly every one of your columns provides Karl Rove with fuel to use in damning and condemning the last Democratic administration.
Don’t you realize that Rove and his minions are searching around for every grain of nastiness they can find to use in campaign ads? You’re columns are fertile fields for him to plow, embellish and then sow that excrement in campaign ads.
This week Bill Clinton stood up and stuck it to Fox. His bravery electrified the base of the Democratic Party and alerted the rychus righties and fence sitters that the Democratic Party was back with gusto and guts.
You, on the other hand, wrote a line or two agreeing that Clinton was right to twist the Fox’s tail but then went into your usual diatribe criticizing everything Clinton as you have done for many years.
You need to read the September 28th posting on our blog by Keith Olbermann and learn the real meaning of fearless: http://gendergappers.blogspot.com/
Now you are touting your book telling people how to become fearless, and when asked in an interview on AARadio by Randy Rhodes what you thought of Clinton’s action, you briefly agreed it was a good thing to do and then, true to form, you kicked his ass in contemptuous tones about something else.
And from your previous conduct, we predict you will do the same thing in every future interview. With so called friends like you the Dems don’t need any enemies.

Keith Olbermann comments on Bill Clinton's Fox News interview.
The headlines about them are, of course, entirely wrong.
It is not essential that a past president, bullied and sandbagged by a
monkey posing as
a newscaster, finally lashed back.
It is not important that the current President's portable public chorus has
described his
predecessor's tone as "crazed."
Our tone should be crazed. The nation's freedoms are under assault by an
administration whose policies can do us as much damage as al Qaida; the nation's
marketplace of ideas is being poisoned by a propaganda company so blatant that
Tokyo
Rose would've quit.
Nonetheless. The headline is this:
Bill Clinton did what almost none of us have done in five years.
He has spoken the truth about 9/11, and the current presidential
administration.
"At least I tried," he said of his own efforts to capture or kill Osama bin
Laden. "That's
the difference in me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are
attacking me
now. They had eight months to try; they did not try. I tried."
Thus in his supposed emeritus years has Mr. Clinton taken forceful and
triumphant
action for honesty, and for us; action as vital and as courageous as any of his
presidency;
action as startling and as liberating, as any, by any one, in these last five
long years.
The Bush Administration did not try to get Osama bin Laden before 9/11.
The Bush Administration ignored all the evidence gathered by its
predecessors.
The Bush Administration did not understand the Daily Briefing entitled "Bin
Laden
Determined To Strike in U.S."
The Bush Administration did not try.
Moreover, for the last five years one month and two weeks, the current
administration,
and in particular the President, has been given the greatest "pass" for
incompetence and
malfeasance in American history!
President Roosevelt was rightly blamed for ignoring the warning signs - some
of them,
17 years old - before Pearl Harbor.
President Hoover was correctly blamed for - if not the Great Depression
itself - then the
disastrous economic steps he took in the immediate aftermath of the Stock Market
Crash.
Even President Lincoln assumed some measure of responsibility for the Civil
War -
though talk of Southern secession had begun as early as 1832.
But not this president.
To hear him bleat and whine and bully at nearly every opportunity, one would
think
someone else had been president on September 11th, 2001 -- or the nearly eight
months
that preceded it.
That hardly reflects the honesty nor manliness we expect of the executive.
But if his own fitness to serve is of no true concern to him, perhaps we
should simply
sigh and keep our fingers crossed, until a grown-up takes the job three Januarys
from
now.
Except for this.
After five years of skirting even the most inarguable of facts - that he was
president on
9/11 and he must bear some responsibility for his, and our, unreadiness, Mr.
Bush has
now moved, unmistakably and without conscience or shame, towards re-writing
history,
and attempting to make the responsibility, entirely Mr. Clinton's.
Of course he is not honest enough to do that directly.
As with all the other nefariousness and slime of this, our worst presidency
since James
Buchanan, he is having it done for him, by proxy.
Thus, the sandbag effort by Fox News Friday afternoon.
Consider the timing: the very weekend the National Intelligence Estimate
would be
released and show the Iraq war to be the fraudulent failure it is - not a check
on terror,
but fertilizer for it.
The kind of proof of incompetence, for which the administration and its
hyenas at Fox
need to find a diversion, in a scapegoat.
It was the kind of cheap trick which would get a journalist fired - but a
propagandist,
promoted:
Promise to talk of charity and generosity; but instead launch into the lies
and
distortions with which the Authoritarians among us attack the virtuous and
reward the
useless.
And don't even be professional enough to assume the responsibility for the
slanders
yourself; blame your audience for "e-mailing" you the question.
Mr. Clinton responded as you have seen.
He told the great truth untold about this administration's negligence,
perhaps criminal
negligence, about bin Laden.
He was brave.
Then again, Chris Wallace might be braver still. Had I in one moment
surrendered all my
credibility as a journalist, and been irredeemably humiliated, as was he, I
would have gone
home and started a new career selling seeds by mail.
The smearing by proxy, of course, did not begin Friday afternoon.
Disney was first to sell-out its corporate reputation, with "The Path to
9/11." Of that
company's crimes against truth one needs to say little. Simply put: someone
there enabled
an Authoritarian zealot to belch out Mr. Bush's new and improved history.
The basic plot-line was this: because he was distracted by the Monica
Lewinsky scandal,
Bill Clinton failed to prevent 9/11.
The most curious and in some ways the most infuriating aspect of this
slapdash theory,
is that the Right Wingers who have advocated it - who try to sneak it into our
collective
consciousness through entertainment, or who sandbag Mr. Clinton with it at news
interviews - have simply skipped past its most glaring flaw.
Had it been true that Clinton had been distracted from the hunt for bin
Laden in 1998
because of the Monica Lewinsky nonsense, why did these same people not applaud
him
for having bombed bin Laden's camps in Afghanistan and Sudan on Aug. 20, of that
year?
For mentioning bin Laden by name as he did so?
That day, Republican Senator Grams of Minnesota invoked the movie "Wag The
Dog."
Republican Senator Coats of Indiana questioned Mr. Clinton's judgment.
Republican Senator Ashcroft of Missouri - the future attorney general -
echoed Coats.
Even Republican Senator Arlen Specter questioned the timing.
And of course, were it true Clinton had been "distracted" by the Lewinsky
witch-hunt,
who on earth conducted the Lewinsky witch-hunt?
Who turned the political discourse of this nation on its head for two years?
Who corrupted the political media?
Who made it impossible for us to even bring back on the air, the
counter-terrorism
analysts like Dr. Richard Haass, and James Dunegan, who had warned, at this very
hour, on
this very network, in early 1998, of cells from the Middle East who sought to
attack us,
here?
Who preempted them in order to strangle us with the trivia that was, "All
Monica All The
Time"?
Who distracted whom?
This is, of course, where - as is inevitable - Mr. Bush and his henchmen
prove not quite
as smart as they think they are.
The full responsibility for 9/11 is obviously shared by three
administrations, possibly
four.
But, Mr. Bush, if you are now trying to convince us by proxy that it's all
about the
distractions of 1998 and 1999, then you will have to face a startling fact that
your minions
may have hidden from you.
The distractions of 1998 and 1999, Mr. Bush, were carefully manufactured,
and lovingly
executed, not by Bill Clinton, but by the same people who got you elected
President.
Thus, instead of some commendable acknowledgment that you were even in
office on
9/11 and the lost months before it, we have your sleazy and sloppy rewriting of
history,
designed by somebody who evidently read the Orwell playbook too quickly.
Thus, instead of some explanation for the inertia of your first eight months
in office, we
are told that you have kept us "safe" ever since - a statement that might range
anywhere
from zero, to 100 percent, true.
We have nothing but your word, and your word has long since ceased to mean
anything.
And, of course, the one time you have ever given us specifics about what you
have kept
us safe from, Mr. Bush, you got the name of the supposedly targeted Tower in Los
Angeles
wrong.
Thus was it left for the previous president to say what so many of us have
felt; what so
many of us have given you a pass for in the months and even the years after the
attack:
You did not try.
You ignored the evidence gathered by your predecessor.
You ignored the evidence gathered by your own people.
Then, you blamed your predecessor.
That would be a textbook definition, Mr. Bush, of cowardice.
To enforce the lies of the present, it is necessary to erase the truths of
the past.
That was one of the great mechanical realities Eric Blair - writing as
George Orwell -
gave us in the book "1984."
The great philosophical reality he gave us, Mr. Bush, may sound as familiar
to you, as it
has lately begun to sound familiar to me.
"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in
the good of
others; we are interested solely in power...
"Power is not a means; it is an end.
"One does not establish a dictatorship to safeguard a revolution; one makes
the
revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.
"The object of persecution, is persecution. The object of torture, is
torture. The object
of power… is power."
Earlier last Friday afternoon, before the Fox ambush, speaking in the far
different
context of the closing session of his remarkable Global Initiative, Mr. Clinton
quoted
Abraham Lincoln's State of the Union address from 1862.
"We must disenthrall ourselves."
Mr. Clinton did not quote the rest of Mr. Lincoln's sentence.
He might well have.
"We must disenthrall ourselves and then we shall save our country."
And so has Mr. Clinton helped us to disenthrall ourselves, and perhaps
enabled us, even
at this late and bleak date, to save our country.
The "free pass" has been withdrawn, Mr. Bush.
You did not act to prevent 9/11.
We do not know what you have done to prevent another 9/11.
You have failed us - then leveraged that failure, to justify a purposeless
war in Iraq
which will have, all too soon, claimed more American lives than did 9/11.
You have failed us anew in Afghanistan.
And you have now tried to hide your failures, by blaming your predecessor.
And now you exploit your failure, to rationalize brazen torture which
doesn't work
anyway; which only condemns our soldiers to water-boarding; which only
humiliates our
country further in the world; and which no true American would ever condone, let
alone
advocate.
And there it is, Mr. Bush:

THE PETULANT PUPPIES
Of course it had to happen. John Philippe Rushton, who “proved” that intelligence is influenced by race now claims that men are more intelligent than women.
He asserts that the 'glass ceiling' is not due to discrimination or lack of opportunity but to inferior intelligence. This is based on university aptitude tests taken by 100,000 students aged 17 and 18 of both sexes.
Just as in his race studies, Rushton has based his findings on a selective group being tested with questions about the world as it is delineated by white males. But there is much more than this available to declare his findings bogus.
We have the whole history of the world to look at. And while there was a Leonardo da Vinci and an Albert Einstein, there was also a Marie Curie and a Rosalind Franklin. Both were limited in their accomplishments and the credit for them by gender - not theirs, the male gender.
A woman cannot become a giant when she is caged and/or her work stolen, not only by her colleagues but by the false or inadequate recording of history.
However the best and most reliable History is what we are living today – that is if we observe our leadership rather than being taken in by the propaganda of fear it continually feeds us.
No matter whether a person has a smidgen of intelligence less than the next guy, s/he must be aware of the corruption in government, and more recently, how the males in the U.N. are conducting themselves.
We are not just talking alph-males here. Bush is an alph-nothing and no one would ever think him intelligent and certainly not erudite. Just as in his race studies, Rushton has based his findings on a selective group being tested with questions about the world as it is delineated by white males. But there is much more than this available to declare his findings bogus.
We have the whole history of the world to look at. And while there was a Leonardo da Vinci and an Albert Einstein, there was also a Marie Curie and a Rosalind Franklin. Both were limited in their accomplishments and the credit for them by gender - not theirs, the male gender.
A woman cannot become a giant when she is caged and/or her work stolen, not only by her colleagues but by the false or inadequate recording of history.
However the best and most reliable History is what we are living today – that is if we observe our leadership rather than being taken in by the propaganda of fear it continually feeds us.
No matter whether a person has a smidgen of intelligence less than the next guy, s/he must be aware of the corruption in government, and more recently, how the males in the U.N. are conducting themselves.
We are not just talking alph-males here. Bush is an alph-nothing and no one would ever think him intelligent and certainly not erudite. MAKING LEMONADE
We are all sick of the non-stop pro-war propaganda barrage masquerading as reverence so this article has nothing to do with all that. This is about a person who took the lemon life handed her and made lemonade out of it.
This story did appear in the back pages of a few papers but it was just too full of woman empowerment to survive the ultra-testosterone atmosphere that has constantly permeated the media this week.
Kyle Paxman, living and working in California, had planned to have her wedding in her home state, Vermont. She had hired the posh Basin Harbor Club in Ferrisburg for the ceremony and reserved many rooms for guests.
Then a man she had never met came to her office, with e-mails and other evidence, to inform her that her fiancé was cheating on her – with the informer’s girlfriend -- and everything got turned upside down.
Preparations for the wedding were completed and “180 guests had tickets from all over the country and the Virgin Islands to come and make a weekend of my wedding”, said Paxman.
But it was not to happen – she called her mother to have her cancel the wedding, then she caught a plane for Vermont where she joined her parents for a week. It was there that a plan developed. She realized that she could “turn something awful into something wonderful.”
Since they could not cancel the reception room and block of guest rooms, they “turned the wedding into a charity benefit where strong women will be celebrated.”
Kyle and her parents invited 125 women to partake of the cancelled reception goodies who would contribute to the Vermont Children’s Aid Society and CARE, USA.
She chose CARE because of a powerful advertisement on TV showing hundreds of women from various countries crossing a desert; four of them stare into the camera and declare, “I am powerful.”
A narrator says: “She has the power to change her world. You have the power to help her,” and it spoke to Ms. Paxman. “It was the most powerful commercial I’ve ever seen,” she said. “I knew then that I had found my other cause.” http://www.care.org/
“If you think about it, she’s not only empowering herself, she’s reaching out and helping to empower other women,” said Bibiana Betancourt, a fund-raising executive at CARE. She said Ms. Paxman’s plans were the most unusual she had encountered in her seven years raising money for CARE.
A few days later, Kyle and her mother left on what would have been her honeymoon trip to Tahiti, Bora-Bora and Moorea. “I’m going with the strongest woman I have ever met.” Kyle said about her mother, Patty Carbee.
And here and now in a crucial political time for women, we too must empower ourselves and throw out an administration that has been so unfaithful to our Constitution and so destructive – not just to American women but to the whole world of women.

PRESIDENT PELOSI
Lots of buzz on the tube about a film showing Bush being assassinated but not only the Republicans are upset. The media is torn between trying to appear horrified and secretly delighted at the possibilities for stories.
Now we all know that there are many all over the world besides the terrorists who would not be disappointed if the incident really happened. Bush is not popular but the reason we are not hearing cheers at the prospect is that most realize the horror of a President Cheney.
Even many Republicans would not be happy to have Cheney in that office but what scares them out of their wits is the good possibility that the Democrats may win the House in November.
They are aware that Cheney has had many cardiac problems and if he should succumb, the Speaker of the House would become president and that is Nancy Pelosi.
So it isn’t the assassination film that terrifies them; it is the prospect of Pelosi becoming Speaker. What they fear most is that both Bush and Cheney will be impeached and then she would become president.
Yup, it’s really true that Democrats and even some Republicans are fed up with the Bush/Cheney attack on our Constitution and the way they have gotten us into a preemptive war that has drained our country in both our youth and our economy.
The news that polygamist leader, Warren Jeffs, has been returned to Utah to face felony sex charges make everyone happy. He is now lodged in the Purgatory correction facility in Hurricane to answer for his crimes of complicity in the rapes of young girls.
We can only hope that Jeffs won’t get off lightly in Purgatory; as for Bush and Cheney, we long for their arraignment, trial and punishment for their many felonious acts against our Constitution and the world.
Despite the efforts by Bush to have Congress pass a bill that makes all of his transgressions against the Constitution legal, he and Cheney must be judged and punished for the many years of felonious assault on this country.
Purgatory would be too good for them. We hope the future honest replacements in our judicial system will sentence them to hard labor and send them both straight to Hell … Hell’s Half Acre …Wyoming.

O TEMPORA, O MORES!
One of the more fascinating things observed over the years both from history and personal observation is the ritual of hand shaking and permutations thereof.
We read that the custom may have started, in effect, to disarm each man as they came close to each other since neither would be able to reach for his sword if his hand was clasped by a stranger or his enemy.
Actually the early handshakes were really wrist or arm shakes as the lower arm was grasped. But who really knows if this was consistent throughout the world at that time. We mostly go by the art and writings of certain area historians.
Certainly there is some evidence of secret religious societies having a coded way of shaking hands to discover anyone who pretended to be a member. It persists to this day in the Masons and Knights of Columbus just to name two.
Women have never been involved in handshaking to any extent. Early on the noblest born extended her hand for a man to respectfully kiss or press his lips against in lieu of shaking.
Most women, however, just got the back of men’s hand and no respect at all. This has changed slightly in more modern times but it seems women are supposed to submit to a cheek kiss when introduced to or greeting a man now-a -days.
In recent times some of the old-time ritual handshakes and new-time gang ritual from street to sports have become openly practiced and imitated by many. These have gone through a myriad of changes.
Especially interesting are the non-shaking ones such as the knuckle touch, the fist thump and the elbow poke. If there is distance between the two then the finger point comes into play.
Before those became popular the handshake was replaced by the ritual slapping of the palm of the other’s hand, which was returned. There are many variations of this, the “give me 5” delivered at different points in space.
So as different parts of the body come to be used it was inevitable that the macho chest slam would emerge. Here the new version of “high 5” is the whole body of both men jumping up and in to slam their chests against each other.
Despite the huge entertainment value of these boyish games, they have in the past and do in the future, bond men together as an entity separate and apart, whether as a gender, an athletic team, a military unit or a gang.
Tradition is preserved as well.
Even though some women’s sport teams may emulate these handshakes, they do not have the force of tradition since women are not allowed a tradition.
Remember the World Champion women’s soccer kick a few years back that won the cup? Tradition was that the kicker removes his shirt but when the woman kicker took her shirt off, she and her team were chastised by most of the country, its sporting groups and of course the media.
Lack of one’s own tradition and denial of male sport traditions may be one of the reasons why CHICKS are paid 70 cents for every one dollar MEN are paid. o tempora, o mores: Alas for the times and the manners.

SLIMING A JUDGE
A traditional roast features a guest of honor and a group of people who say good natured, humorous, outlandish and sometimes crude remarks about the guest of honor all in a spirit of fun. And most important, the roastee gets to answer and roast her/his roasters in turn.
Rovian politics uses the roast motif but his game is nothing like a roast. It lacks the good humor, the grace and the give and take.
It adds vicious lies and promotes hatred turning them into political depth charges against any person who dares to say, do or appear in the same area or organization, as anyone who is against the Bush policies.
Once Rove initiates the initial slime it is issued to the lap-dog columnists and TV pundit-gabbers as talking points. This keeps the slime moving all over the media and blogs so many people are exposed to it.
Most remember the Swift Boat slime that was so successfully used against Kerry in the last presidential election. Nearly every day there is another person or organization slimed by the Republican slime lords.
On this Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2006, we celebrate the latest person to be slimed, and nominate Judge Anna Diggs Taylor as Woman of the Year. Finally someone stood up and called Bush what he is -- a criminal.
Judge Taylor, a federal judge in Detroit, struck down the National Security Agency’s domestic surveillance policy last Thursday. She called it unconstitutional and illegal abuse of presidential power.
Of course the Bush Justice Department quickly filed a notice of appeals which effectively delays Judge Taylor’s ruling to immediately halt the NSA Program.
Just as quickly, the judge was denounced for being Liberal, a woman, a tool of the ACLU and of course, their stock in trade, a person who wants to help the terrorists.
It is terrible when public figures are lied about as it encourages the nut cases to plan harmful actions. We’ve seen how judges have been a target in the recent past and must applaud the courage of Judge Taylor who surely knew what kind of Hell her findings would bring.
We all must lend our support to her and a group has already set up a web-site where we can send Judge Taylor our words of support and find a link to her entire decision. http://www.judgetaylor.org

MULTIPLE WARGASMS
We are hearing a chilling deja vu from Bush and his mob. Just go back and read the news following 9/11 and note how quickly Iraq appears. Remember the mushroom cloud illusion to make us think nuclear bomb?
That was then and now the country is Iran. Bush is frothing at the mouth to start bombing that country, insisting that it is threatening us with nuclear rockets.

So here we are once more. Will we let Bush do this to us again? He fooled and scared us many times and shame on him but if we go along again, shame on us and heaven help this country.
Think where we might be if we had put our energy and effort into Afghanistan and never taken on the futile and illegal invasion of Iraq. We entered the battle in Afghanistan because 9/11 plans were hatched there by terrorist who were protected by the Taliban.
Now a neglected Afghanistan is being led by its warlords back into their old style of life under the Taliban. Remember how Laura Bush gushed about how Afghanistani women were now free and that they could vote, hold jobs, go to school and dress as they wished? Here’s just one report from last year:

Never happened! Human Rights Watch tells us that now the plight of women there is humongous. They are raped and beaten in their homes, and if they go outside they are tortured by the Taliban Vice Squads.
The right to education that Laura gushed Afghani women had, if it ever existed, is now revoked. They cannot leave their homes unless they are completely covered and accompanied by a male family member.
This is a good example of the whore-values of the wargasmic Bush regime. This is the culmination of the tragedy they brought to this country. First they drove out the Taliban warlords then they turned their Christian backs and let Osama and his group go free.
Now Afghanistan is once again a huge producer of poppies for the drug trade. The standard of living has toppled and as usual, the main group to suffer is women – and we know how Republicans hate women.
As if all this was not enough there is now a polio epidemic plaguing these people while the Bushies turn their backs and contemplate a preemptive invasion of Iran.

Now a neglected Afghanistan is being led by its warlords back into their old style of life under the Taliban. Remember how Laura Bush gushed about how Afghanistani women were now free and that they could vote, hold jobs, go to school and dress as they wished? Here’s just one report from last year:

Never happened! Human Rights Watch tells us that now the plight of women there is humongous. They are raped and beaten in their homes, and if they go outside they are tortured by the Taliban Vice Squads.
The right to education that Laura gushed Afghani women had, if it ever existed, is now revoked. They cannot leave their homes unless they are completely covered and accompanied by a male family member.
This is a good example of the whore-values of the wargasmic Bush regime. This is the culmination of the tragedy they brought to this country. First they drove out the Taliban warlords then they turned their Christian backs and let Osama and his group go free.
Now Afghanistan is once again a huge producer of poppies for the drug trade. The standard of living has toppled and as usual, the main group to suffer is women – and we know how Republicans hate women.
As if all this was not enough there is now a polio epidemic plaguing these people while the Bushies turn their backs and contemplate a preemptive invasion of Iran.

"It is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America," Bush said this week.
“We are fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here.” Bush has often given as a reason for his preemptive Iraq war. How can anyone trust this liar with their lives?
Hold off on the celebrations – the election for a Senator from Connecticut is not until November. Money will flow between now and then and you can be sure much of it will come from Republican sources.
Already Ken Mehlman, Party chief, is saying the defeatist wing of the Democratic Party won. We’ll see further inferences that these left wing Dems are too weak to defend the country; that they are cowards and unpatriotic.
They call Joe a patriotic progressive who wants to end the nasty fights between the Republicans and Democrats so good laws can be made for the American people. A dizzying spin but one we’ve often heard.
They want their boy Joe back and who can blame them? He has been a loyal supporter of Bush. That brings up the big problem Democrats have. They tend to call it as they see it and to hell with Party loyalty.
Compare this to the way the Republicans got so strong that they took over all three branches of government. They obeyed what Ronald Regan called, “the 13th Commandment”. Never speak ill of another Republican.
So Delay was obviously a crook? Not according to any Republican who saw all the evidence and still saw no evil. And this was true of all the other crooks who, blinded by the power they had, dipped into the get rich pool without a thought for the consequences.
Watch how cleverly the Rovian gangs cover up the obvious implications of the Connecticut Primary. They don’t want the country thinking that it was the Iraq debacle that caused the large turnout to turn out Holy Joe, so they will drag in spin, and emphasize whatever they can in the news to obliterate it.
The present conflict in Lebanon is a fertile field to use to turn the conversations and minds of the country away from Iraq. Whereas we are not allowed to see the rows of flag draped coffins of our Iraqi dead, we now can often see the rows of coffins filled with the bodies of Lebanese.
And all around this Middle East area there are hot spots to heat up. Joe Heller drew a great cartoon showing this: one panel shows the axis of evil in 2002 was Iraq, N. Korea and Iran – a triangle.
On another panel for 2006, Heller draws the dodecahedron of evil: Hezbollah, Insurgents, bin Laden, AlQuida, Iraq, Hamas, Radicalized Muslims, Syria, Shite Militants, North Korea, Iran, Suni Militants, Pakistan Warlords, Afghan Taliban and all other America haters.
The caption shows Bush saying, “Let’s just say it’s gotten a little complicated…” Sure appears to be plenty there to once again pull the wool of American foreign policy over the complacent eyes of the American electorate.

OUTBACK OF BEYOND
We’ve been walking and looking around our neighborhood imagining what it would be like if bombs were dropping and buildings and people were blowing up.
As a country, we have mostly blindly followed Bush’s fantasy spin of the destruction of the two huge towers in New York City shortly after he took control of our defenses against terrorism.
An act of terrorism he claims came from evil-doers from outside the country; so powerful they prevented NORAD’s early response -- so powerful the evil-doer leader’s family was allowed to leave for their home in Saudi Arabia while everyone else was grounded.
Prior to this, NORAD had an excellent record of immediate response to threats. Who ordered it to stand down in the face of multiple hijackings on September 11th?
That was then and now it is vitally important that we leave vengeance by impeachment aside for the moment and concentrate on stopping this destructive man and his Party from inflicting still further harm in the next two years.
The Leadership of Congress must be taken back in November. Rove’s dirty trick squad is in full cry to prevent that from happening. We know many of his tactics but one in particular especially affects women.
Throughout the country, Republicans are running and financing women to run for open seats with the certainty that women will preferably vote for other women – even if they are Republican.
In many cases, these candidates may be well qualified people and the temptation is great but women must resist. It is vital that we put a Congress in place that will curb Bush’s power over the next two years. Waiting any longer may be too late.
That means the majority Party must be Democratic. Forget about revenge and impeachment – we must first to get our country up and running . We need to get our ports and boarders safe. We need to get the troops home and work on our reputation with the rest of the world.
We must break the back of Bush’s use of fear to make people vote for his Party and one way we can do that is by preventing Karl Rove from controlling women’s votes.
Bush has used his pseudo-religious reverence to make himself appear godly to his base. The inference is that god is directing his actions.
Outback of beyond getting Republican/Bush power off our backs and stop them from completely destroying the world, we can vote for women on their merits instead of their gender or Party. Now we dare not!

SUGAR AND SPICE
Packing the Supreme Court with Conservatives bids ill for the progress women have made in the last 100 years. Few women who have tasted independence would want to go back.
Even so, the social aspect of gender inequality still persists. Women dress in impossible costumes and killer footwear. Despite what one sees on the TV sitcoms, she is helpless to defend herself or run from danger.
She cannot open doors for herself; she cannot put on a coat or wrap and she needs to lean on something to stand or walk. She is an ornament, useless as a human, but beautifully robed like the most gracious flower and like the flower dependent on her youth and beauty for acceptance.
But now in the 21st century, many women have escaped those limits and confines. They wear the cloths and shoes of activity. They are beginning to see themselves as useful, self actualizing human beings.
A recent news item telling about Rosie’s Girls is both illuminating and enlightening – mostly from what the girls themselves experienced. For three weeks a class of 25 local middle school young women learned trades, gained leadership and collaborating skills.
Two of them, Brit and Anna were eager to be challenged at the Technology Center “without having to worry about boys being around – whether as distraction or competition”.
“I’m so glad there are no boys here!” said Anna. “It’s just that you can come here in sweat pants and a T-shirt and just be yourself. The camp is sponsored by the Northern New England Tradeswomen [NNET] and named for Rosie the Riveter – the famous symbol of working women from W W 2.
Britt said she got “a big kick out of wielding a blowtorch while Anna delighted in building furniture. Both reveled in the opportunity for challenge.
When girls are young they think they can do anything and then they get pulled into the tidal whirlpool of gender oriented customs. The camp helps them develop. It helps them to “know who they are and what they can do.”
This includes repairing bikes or cars, wiring, firefighting or welding. “There is an enormous amount of confidence you can develop when you walk into a room and know what a jigsaw is and how to use it”, explains Tiffany Bluemle, executive director of the NNET.
Along with the training sessions in carpentry and other trades, the girls talk with women in the work force, discuss social issues and engage in physical activities such as ropes courses and self defense classes.
Anna used to spend a lot of time worrying about expensive outfits or fixing her hair. “No more.” She vowed. “I’m going to lay off the outfits and the makeup. I’m going to be me. Life isn’t supposed to be something you’re worrying about. It’s something you’re supposed to live.”
Such a glorious sense of being and becoming -- but how quickly our society will move in to take her down. The very training and opportunities that boys have always been privileged to receive and benefit from are stifled for girls in the cruelest ways. They are still valued for their looks rather than their accomplishments.
And the Supremes are poised on the brink of taking women back to the 19th century unless a Democratic majority takes over Congress this year.

SCHITT HAPPENS
Can you believe it? All over the world newspapers are printing the word, pundits are repeating it and everyone is laughing about it -- but not in this enlightened, democratic land of the 2nd Amendment.
No indeed! Here the forces of God, as strained through Bush, have prohibited the broadcasted saying or writing of certain bad, nasty, swearing words. Can you say hypocrite?
So the laughter around the world is not just about what Bush said and how boorish he acted, but AT this country that is tongue-tied over an ancient word for excrement. We can say torture and do it; we can say Constitution and lose it but we must never let #2 leave the lips of our media.
It’s a wonder we have any pride in our leadership left. Besides stupidly crapping all over Prime Minister Tony Blair’s endeavors to work on a solution to the flaming lands of the Bible, our head of state talked while stuffing his mouth full of food. Later on he groped Germany’s leader.
Meanwhile our erstwhile Slambasadore Bolton declared that the death of those fighting terrorists were more important that the deaths of innocent civilians.
Freedom of the press took another body blow as Dean Helen Thomas was nastily accused of “giving the Hezbollah viewpoint” by Tony Snow. This is often the response given to avoid giving an answer – accuse the questioner of being on the terrorists’ side.
Snow also called the word used by Bush, whose use by the media is prohibited in this country, COLORFUL LANGUAGE.
Now while all this was going on the legislators in DC were talking about stem cell research. The super godly among them assured us that “we are a country of strong moral values”.
Then, when Bush vetoed the stem cell bill, he declared that he did so because human life was sacred and he was protecting it. Tell that to the thousands of Iraqi who have died from his preemptive war and tell that to the many who could benefit from stem cell research.
They seem to think that their pious words fix everything. All that other stuff is an illusion, so we can all go back to bitching and kvetching or we could add our voices to the debates and let those folks in DC know that we vote and they are toast.

GANGSTA RAPUBLICANS
Who knew? Something so commonplace just doesn’t get the ink anymore. When the news broke of the gang rape of a child in Iraq by American troops, most people were shocked and saddened.
“Bad apples”, was the usual comment. Surely, “our boys would never do such a thing. It must have been a mistake someone made when they were recruited for the military service.”
In a few instances, media gave the surprising stats about gang rape by Americans. One police officer admitted that it happened here quite frequently and it wasn’t just the bad boys that did it.
Men/boys in gangs, whose prejudices may be deeply embedded, helped along by alcohol and lust, willingly succumb to the collective courage of the group which easily overcomes the veneer of social upbringing.
So called, “nice young men” have admitted to being swept along to do something they felt was terrible just because group pressure made it a factor of proving their manhood.
So despite what the apologist pundits have offered for this heinous crime against an Iraqi female child [asserting that troops must hate and dehumanize those they are convinced are out to kill them], rape and gang rape occurs frequently right here at home.

Simply said, our culture devaluates women, teaches women to devalue themselves and rewards males who put down uppity women. One has only to listen to our language to experience the truth.
This attitude toward females is ancient and is rampant in all religions. The very word given to those abused by men and gangs of men is VICTIM.
Victim is from the Latin, victima, meaning SACRIFICE. We have not progressed very far from the past when virgins were thrown into volcanoes to appease men’s gods. And rape of women has always been considered one of the “spoils of war”.
We may think that gangs are street outlaws but they are also are the prime unit in the atrocities committed by college and professional sports. Initiation rites are rife with penile bonding against women.
One needs only to listen in to the locker room chatter to understand how males are taught that the road to manhood is to victimize/put down women. The proof comes from the testimony of those males who act with a gang and then later are appalled by what they have seen and done.
This power hierarchy flows from churches and government but gets its final honing in sports and the military. Republicans have always understood this and used it to consolidate their power and control.

So despite what the apologist pundits have offered for this heinous crime against an Iraqi female child [asserting that troops must hate and dehumanize those they are convinced are out to kill them], rape and gang rape occurs frequently right here at home.

Simply said, our culture devaluates women, teaches women to devalue themselves and rewards males who put down uppity women. One has only to listen to our language to experience the truth.
This attitude toward females is ancient and is rampant in all religions. The very word given to those abused by men and gangs of men is VICTIM.
Victim is from the Latin, victima, meaning SACRIFICE. We have not progressed very far from the past when virgins were thrown into volcanoes to appease men’s gods. And rape of women has always been considered one of the “spoils of war”.
We may think that gangs are street outlaws but they are also are the prime unit in the atrocities committed by college and professional sports. Initiation rites are rife with penile bonding against women.
One needs only to listen in to the locker room chatter to understand how males are taught that the road to manhood is to victimize/put down women. The proof comes from the testimony of those males who act with a gang and then later are appalled by what they have seen and done.
This power hierarchy flows from churches and government but gets its final honing in sports and the military. Republicans have always understood this and used it to consolidate their power and control.

FOURTEEN RED ROSES
Another 4th of July has come and gone leaving behind a tattered and torn Constitution for a people that had rather watch [and worship] “Idols” and the numerous “Amazing Soaps de jour” on TV than add their voices to protest.
Bush’s Bill of Wrongs is supplanting the Bill of Rights [BOR’s] while most of the country yawns. Have we forgotten why the Constitution was revised by the addition of the first 10 Amendments - The Bill of Rights?
It was revised by the Founders because they worried that the Constitution they had just written was so powerful that it could lead to a repressive central government.
The first 8 Amendments list basic rights to protect the citizens from abuse by the federal government. The separate states could still enact laws that took these rights away and the BOR’s could not protect them.
When the Congress in 1866 noted that state laws were circumventing the 13th Amendment which prohibited slavery, it proposed the 14th Amendment.
Part of it reads: “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
Because of these words, discriminatory tax laws are invalidated; homeless and underage laborers are protected; basic medical services for the poor are guaranteed. They are also the basis for gay rights and protect women’s reproductive choices.
Without those words, government can run roughshod over all of the gains women have made toward equality. And we know that the present administration and the Republicans are determined to centralize power at the federal level and destroy the protection at the state level.
In celebration of those words and the 4th of July, we figuratively lay 14 red roses on the Constitution knowing full well how close Bush is to burying those words and women’s rights along with them.

ZIPPADEDOODA!
It’s taken long enough but now some things are finally making sense to us. Not much, to be sure, but just enough to stay clear of the funny farm.
What confused us was hearing that we were in a never ending war against terror. Well, OK, that does make a modicum of sense, but it’s all that came after that made our brain itch.
Like, for instance, “stay the course” when no course/plan is given; or “win the war” when it’s never ending; or flag must be honored but waging an unprovoked war against another country is acceptable.
And why, we wondered, was it OK for Kid Rock to throw the flag around in the same ballgame that the horror of that wardrobe malfunction occurred? Or was it not desecration when Bush signed his name on some flags?
We constantly hear how badly things are going in Iraq and how it resembles Mogadishu as our troops are mutilated and we find ourselves in civil war where both sides are shooting at us.
But that means we are fighting there so we don’t have to fight here. Which would be just great but then we are told that we are constantly fighting terrorist here.
Then there’s the Constitution which used to be the basis of our government but now can be ignored in order to fight them over there and here by ignoring privacy safeguards built in to protect us.
Newspapers now must print what the government decrees and must not print anything the government banns. If they do, they are considered to be traitors and criminals who are hurting our war against terror.
And why, we puzzled, was it OK for the White House to out a CIA agent for revenge while the printing of a factual article on White House perfidy is called treason?
As if that weren’t enough, Bush claims our soldiers must stay in Iraq until we have won. Anyone or any group who disagrees is accused of being a coward for advocating “cut and run”.
He also says that drawdown of troops will be on the advice of his generals in the field. Since victory or winning is never defined, it is difficult to understand why now the drawdown is slated to start in September.
By coincidence, of course, that would be just before the November elections. And even more coincidental, polls show the majority of voters favor us cutting or running on the basis of “he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day”.
It was all too difficult to figure out until we realized that simple signing statements can reverse or change the intent of laws made by Congress. And that the Constitution can be circumvented by the Justice Department.
So up is down and down is wherever Bush wants it to be. So now we understand that we have fallen down a rabbit hole where Bush is the Mad Hatter and Karl Rove is the cross-dressing Queen of Hearts.

RELIGION REINFORCES THE MYTH
In the interest of full disclosure, we’ll say right up front that we do not like Meet the Press’, Tim Russert. This is because he is just one more jerk pimping for the White House.
That said, we liked him even less after hearing several interviews he had with talking heads where he glorified men as father/mother and his hosts drooled all over themselves agreeing with him.
Here’s the jist of the adulation that issued forth: Russert raved mightily about how his father raised him and his siblings all by himself. “He was both mother and father to us.”
He continued on with a tone usually reserved for the reporting of a miracle or a super hero’s antics. He reverently declared that his father took care of all the family’s needs, kept the house, and cooked the meals all the while never missing a day of work.
His interviewers fawned all over him; agreeing that his daddy was certainly superhuman, a prince among men, one in a billion and worthy of great praise for his family endeavors. Watta guy!
Now, let’s see – Tim’s daddy took care of the house and the kids besides having a full time job. Where’s the miracle? Women have been doing that for eons and have never been considered worthy of sainthood or superhuman. And their jobs demanded longer hours with much less pay than a man would get.
It was expected of them, but wait there’s more. The reason why women aren’t given the adulation and credit that men get is simple, we were told. Men just do everything better because they are superior beings – this is the myth religions created and support.
Children who are brought up by a father are lucky simply because men can fill the mother’s role; but even the best woman cannot fill the father’s role. That takes a man - a superior being. There it is folks, the continued basis for the inequality of the genders. As long as this persists equal rights for women will not manifest despite any law or politically professed attitude. Religions expressly prohibit it.
This blind and ignorant adherence to religious myth by many in this country was stunningly demonstrated recently in the following interview with Congressman Westmoreland on the Colbert Report.
Congressman Westmoreland co-sponsored a bill to have the Ten Commandments in schools and other public places. Following is a part of the interview:
Colbert: You have not introduced a single piece of legislation since you entered Congress.
Westmoreland: That's correct.
Colbert: This has been called a do nothing Congress. Is it safe to say you're the do nothingest?
Westmoreland: I, I, ..Well there's one other do nothiner. I don't know who that is, but they're a Democrat.
Colbert: What can we get rid of to balance the budget?
Westmoreland: The Dept. of Education.
Colbert: What are the Ten Commandments?
Westmoreland: You mean all of them?--Um... Don't murder. Don't lie. Don't steal Um... I can't name them all.
The fact is that true superwomen and supermen are those who have cast away the biblical ordained gender discrimination and other shibboleths that prevent humanity’s growth.

MACBUSH DOES MURDER TRUTH
Robert Redford has been widely interviewed lately on the environment. He stresses the immediate need, and urges that all concerned with the future of our planet should “just tell the truth.”
He states that people are eager to hear the truth because they have been lied to for so long. It makes sense in other areas besides the environment; Democratic leaders and the media should get on the ball and challenge the lies hurled at us all the time.
What we can never figure out is when the government officials are telling the truth. Now it’s even worse since the Supremes made it nearly illegal for whistle blowers to protect us with their conscience.
Media talking heads just do not challenge the people they interview. The truth is a victim of Bush politics and the media is supposed to be protecting it instead of suborning it.
This week we have been pummeled with graphic evidence of how our armed forces were able to capture one al-Qaeda leader in Iraq. Dead or alive came true with dead being the operative word.
Collateral damage happens and others suffered when two bombs took out this dreaded killed guy, al-Zarqawi. Thereafter, truth changed from minute to minute.
He lived through the bombings and tried to get away. He was tortured by Americans. Americans game him first aid. We were given the facts of the autopsy and minute by minute poop on what an important kill this was.
Bush made a hasty visit to his conquered country, Iraq, to strut the strut and dribble the presidential “looking into his eye” to his Iraqi lackeys. He made it clear – “together forward!” [I am the man! You are the sheep.]
Just in case anyone didn’t get it, he followed that with a speech to his American lackeys. In all the pomp and circumstances of the past week only one thing was certain, TRUTH WAS STILL MISSING IN ACTION, PRESUMED DEAD.

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.
He asked, "What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on earth has a Lie-Clock.
Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move."
Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock.
The hands have moved twenty times, telling us that Abe told only twenty lies in his entire life."
"Where's George Bush's clock?" asked the man.
"Bush's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."
