No matter what anyone may think, there is no war in Iraq – that’s an oil takeover; there is no war against terrorists – that’s a global disease. The real and only war is the war of words. A war Americans have been shown to be ill-equipped to fight.
The goal of this word war is to influence and control minds using words that have been shown to be heavy artillery in this contest. They affect many people by turning off any sort of critical mental oversight.
Examples of these words are 9/11, victory, winners, God, patriot, Democracy, life, terrorist, protect, WMD, secure, mushroom cloud and freedom, but there are many others.
Nearly everyone saw the attack and subsequent information on September 11th. They saw pictures of the hijackers who crashed the planes into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and an open field.
They were shown these pictures over and over along with the information that the attack was planned by a Saudi, Osama bin Laden, leader of al Qaeda. Names and nationalities of the hijackers were constantly repeated – most were from Saudi Arabia, but none of them were IRAQI!
Yet by repeating the words terrorist and 9/11 and Iraq in the same context or even sentences, Bush and Cheney convinced otherwise intelligent people that Iraq’s Saddam Hussain was a major force in the leadership of the terrorist who swiped and crashed the planes.
By using words tying Saddam to nuclear bombs and chemical warfare, Bush and Cheney convinced the majority of Americans that the country was in eminent danger unless Iraq was invaded and Saddam removed.
Why do so many Americans fail to critically examine things they hear? Take for example the oft recited claim that “We must fight them there [[raq] so we don’t have to fight them here [America].”
This is just one example of the often apposing, always conflicting messages given to the American people, many of whom hear just the scary part and feel afraid and want to be protected. They do not hear the threat to their freedom and their Constitution.
They see the purple fingers waving in the air in Iraq and hear the Bushie’s words: freedom, democracy, removed evil dictator, victory, we are the greatest etc. So the father-knows-best mantra goes on and on, carefully coloring minds with conflicting and confusing thoughts of fear and pride – blanking out reason and other words.
Other words like Purple Heart, reminding us of the terrible loss of limbs and eyes; the pain and grief of so many. Words that blank out both word and sight of flag draped coffins, preemptive war and the laws to protect the Constitution and the country.
Think carefully. We all have seen the waving purple fingers all over the media and referenced in every Bush speech, but are we ever shown a ceremony where one of our brave Iraqi war veterans was honored for service with a Purple Heart?
Have you ever wondered why?

THE RUNNING OF THE BULL$
Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire, burn; and caldron, bubble. [Macbeth]
The news has become more than ever like the sound of children arguing, complaining, whining and positioning. “You did it!” “No, you did it first!” “I’m telling!” “I’m impeaching!” Circus Smirkus is in town and all the clowns are loose.
From Huffpo:
Kennedy: “This Is Big Brother Run Amok“… Salazar: “This Is That Wake-Up Call“… Feinstein: “Most Significant Thing I Have Heard In My 12 Years”… Lawmakers Demand Probe… Decision To Withhold Story Caused Friction At The Times… Times Defends Decision… Bush Approved Eavesdropping Over Three Dozen Times… ”To Do It Without The Participation Of The Congress And The Courts Is Unwise In The Extreme”… ”I Was Frankly Astonished…My Head Is Spinning”…
Why is everyone so surprised? He’s been a liar and a crook since day one.
Cafferty [CNN]: “Who cares if the Patriot Act get's renewed. Want to abuse our civil liberties- Just do it! Who cares about the Geneva conventions? Want to torture prisoners-Just do it! Who cares about rules concerning the identity of CIA agents? Want to reveal the name of a covert operative? Just do it!
Who cares about whether the intelligence concerning WMD's is accurate. You want to invade Iraq? Just do it. Who cares about qualifications to serve on the nation's highest court. Want to nominate a personal friend with no qualifications? Just do it.And the latest outrage, which I read about in "The New York Times" this morning, who cares about needing a court order to eavesdrop on American citizens. Want to wiretap their phones conversations? Just do it.... What a joke. A very cruel, very sad joke.”

It’s the same all over whether you read the news, listen to the news or watch the news. The DC crowd of legislators, lobbyists, talking heads and civil servants are embroiled in another juicy scandal, a dwarf tossing match of presidential proportions.
Republicans are falling back as usual on their mantra of blame for the Clinton Administration; saving the country from terrorism and flexing their war muscles while spreading impotent testosterone showers over all. The same fever has infected the blogs and political lists. Republicans, getting their talking points from Father CinC and RNC, balance between rational response and snarling at the Democratic pests chewing and snapping at their legs.
But best and most entertaining bull of all is watching the Democrat’s grassroots snorting and pawing the ground while flinging the soil of their vulnerability and frustration in all directions as they praise a political hero one minute just to curse her/him the next.
A Dem. legislator criticizes Bush in a strong statement and the list/blog posts support her as a presidential candidate. A Dem senator suggests impeach Bush and the posts cry out, “make him the candidate for president” as they dump on their previous choice nastily.
Another legislator explains that the Repugs control the House and the Dems cannot bring on an impeachment process and the blogs and lists comment, “Coward – just like a Democrat to back down.”
So on the Dem Grassroots go, powerless and futile, bobbing and weaving, chasing a charisma or a mirage in nearly mindless rage at their own impotency brought on mainly by lack of money and power – the twin evils and legal tender of Democracy.
What a darling sight for the Gods of Winter Solstice, Christian Christmas, Jewish Hanukkah, African Kwanza et al. The constant running of the bull$, regarding the Dem candidate du jour, rivals the pain, ignorance and slaughter of Pamplona, Spain’s famous Running.

NEANDERTHAL FOLLIES
We just don’t get it. The system executed Tookie for his past crimes which included murder. There was no credit given by the law for his good deeds following his arrest.
He was tried and convicted; given years of appeals while he reformed himself and influenced young people to stay out of gangs. Admirable on the face of it but when the appeals ran out, so did Tookie. He faced the law and the law won.
Just what are the parameters for punishment? We ask because there’s a guy in this country that is responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people. Most of them did nothing to him or to his people; he did it just for the joy of conquest, his ego.
True most of these deaths were foreigners, just a couple of thousand or so were Americans, and they all occurred over in some foreign country that pissed off this guy; some kind of towel-heads who weren’t born again Christians.
But the guy did terrible things in his own country too. He waged legal wars against the poor, the elderly, the infirm and the children. He let a whole culture suffer horribly while he dug into the pockets of the rich for more money for his political cronies.
The rich owed him for cutting their taxes to the bone; for allowing them to outsource their products to avoid more tax; for allowing them to send American jobs to other countries where they could exploit people already living in poverty. Payback for the immense profits that accrued from his wars.
And despite a deaf and dumb media, the crimes of this man were so huge and so horrible that an American Jury, the voters, his peers, came to realize how he had lied to them; how he sent their children off to die in a foreign country for his own ego.
So, by several polls, he was tried and found guilty by nearly three-quarters of the country. And yet he still appeals because he claims that the economy is bustling and soon everyone will have victory and 2 or 3 SUV’s. Still many of the jury forgot about his massive crimes because the Constitution is a “god-damned piece of paper”.
And as he goes around the country with lies and more lies, he spreads fear; fear of disease, fear of terror … But their greatest fear is fear of losing, fear of not winning his war, fear that they are losing their macho image, fear of themselves.
He keeps them desperately afraid of thinking,; of expressing the values of their religious beliefs and honoring their historic past. And the guy knows his Neanderthal Americans. He has revved up his propaganda machine to turn the jury once more in his favor – to turn them into fellow conspirators through their own belief in being tough.
Tough trumps everything for the Neanderthal-American who believes that brawn always beats brains. There is a battle going on now between them and Americans who side with logic, reason and reality.
“Toughness defined in a strictly physical way does not always achieve victory. Might does not make right, nor does it always make everything right. And it is not unmanly to say that. Might makes right is the credo of the warrior. But there is simple power in right as might. It is the power of great leaders in religion and politics, from Jesus Christ to Martin Luther King. Throughout history, brave men and women have taken the high moral ground. Only in America today do we dare call them wimps.” http://www.commondreams.org/views05/1211-21.htm
Will the rule of law prevail and cause Americans to defy their Neanderthalic attitudes or will the Erectus people of the 21st. century and their institutions of law finally get off their knees to rise up and do the political equivalent of a Tookie on this guy and his fellow Neanderthals?

MEDIA STILL A’ROVIN’
It should be safe to say that the present Bush administration, led by Rove and the Neo-cons, planned, plotted and started the preemptive war in Iraq. It should be safe and for awhile there it seemed that the media understood this.
Yes, it seemed that they had finally caught up to the facts right in front of their eyes and the mood of the American people. Sure, it was late in coming but it did seem as if they were really trying to report the news instead of what Rove told them to report.
Certainly there is plenty to investigate and write about just from the latest Commission’s report that gave the Bushies low marks for preparedness, telling us that the homeland is not secure even after all these years and dollars.
And the media people must be aware that although there were Democrats who voted to give Bush latitude to fight terrorists that it did not mean they were for the preemptive Iraq war. Also, most of them voted to support the troops that Bush had already committed to Iraq.
Now most all of the Democrats, as well as most people in the country, want and intelligent drawdown of our troops; they want the National Guard back doing its job in its own state and they want attention paid to the many problems here at home.
As clear as this is, many in the media are going after another wild hare. A hare planted by Karl Rove to keep them away from the scent of the Bush debacle in Iraq and how badly it is turning out.
That hare is ludicrous to those who do not blindly go a’Rovin after any and everything that falls from Karl’s lips. That hair would get short shrift from any thinking journalist.
That hair is all over the shows with talking heads who are speculating and lamenting on the fact that all Democrats are not united on how to pull out of Iraq. Whoa! What is that about? The Dems haven’t the majority to change policy and for that matter, THE REPUGS WHO DO ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT EITHER.
The media mavens know that but still blindly parrot Rove who wants everyone to forget what Howard Dean so eloquently frames as he goes all over the country:
"What we see today is very much like what was going in Watergate," Dean said. "It turns out there is a lot of good evidence that President Bush did not tell the truth when he was asking Congress for the power to go to war. The President said last week that Congress saw the same intelligence that he did in making the decision to go to war, and that is flat out wrong. The President withheld some intelligence from the Senate Intelligence Committee. He withheld the report from the CIA that in fact there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq), that they did not have a nuclear program. They (the White House) selectively gave intelligence to the United States Senate and the United States Congress and got them to give the go ahead to attack these people." http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=C36A87B9-63A0-4CDE-AA91-B41571AFD3AF
Rove hates the damage that the clarity of truth causes so he calls his media palls and puts a wild hairy bug in their ear and they go racing off in all directions yelling and baying on a false scent. Not to be outdone or scooped, the rest of the journalist pack take up the baying with scant idea of what it’s all about.
So now the blame for everything is again placed on the Democrats because they “don’t agree about what to do about Iraqi problems.” Problems they had little to do with creating. And as Rove pushes these buttons on the media, the rest of the Republican chorus weep, wail, cry traitor and generally act like the proverbial fair maiden violated.
And as usual, Lieberman is generally making a stupid ass of himself, securing his place as Bush’s #1 butt boy.
Lieberman yesterday: “It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation’s peril.” 12/6/05
Murtha today: “Undermining his credibility? What has he said that would give him credibility?” - 12/7/05
Solution for the Democrats and the country: “Declare victory and leave”. So said Senator George Aiken of Vermont when the country faced a similar situation in Vietnam.

ALL THE KING’S HORSES AND…
It seems as if many in the media are working hard at pushing the idea that Humpty Dumpty-Iraq may have hada great fall but like the South he will rise again. The media have been and still are the work horses of the RepubliKing.
Those king’s horses have their job cut out for them because many of the king’s men are doing serious damage to the image of the Bush persona, that is, that he is an honest leader with an honest government.
WayneMadsenReport.com Nov. 28, 2005: STATE BY STATE GOP SCANDAL SCORECARD http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/gopscorecard.htm
The worst criminals of all the media-horses are those that have consistently covered up the many Bush lies about Humpty-Iraq until just recently when the stench got so bad that they couldn’t breath. Suddenly these columnists discovered what Democrats have been saying since the Florida debacle.
Instead of honestly admitting that they had been wrong, they join in the chorus of the “misled”, pretending that they have just discovered what has been going on right under their noses. That they do this with no shame or remorse is worst than criminal, it is contemptuous.
Two of the most consistent loyalist horses to the King are still the Hardball hardhead, Chris Matthews and his girl Friday, Nora O’Donnell, who continue to make comments like this:
MATTHEWS: I like him. Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left -- I mean – like him personally. From the November 28 edition of MSNBC's Hardball. As Media Matters for America previously reported, MSNBC chiefWhite House correspondent Norah O'Donnell made a similarlyunsupported statement on the November 27 broadcast of MSNBC's TheChris Matthews Show, claiming that Bush has retained his "authenticity" with the public.
Chris Matthews used variations of the word "brilliant" twice to describe Bush’s Navel Academy speech, while deriding Democratic critics of the Iraq war as "carpers and complainers."
Even worse than the felonious Republican king’s men are Democrat king’s men like Joe Lieberman who continues to support King Bush. It seems we dodged a bullet when the election was stolen in 2000. Old Joe is tighter than a tick with Bush and his world-domination-by-war-policy.
Still the real problem remains as the country is drained of its young women and men; its wealth and its reputation just to keep Humpty-Iraq from falling off the wall. The surfs, the uncommon, common folk want the King to pull our troops out and let Humpty-Iraq stand or fall on its own.
Many of the King’s men, who have escaped scandals, have joined the opposition Democrats in calling for a planned downsizing of troops with a gradual withdrawing of influence. They read the polls and want to be reelected.
The King now is perched shakily on a wall of his own making. He gives lip service to a drawdown but his heart is still into ruling the world and bringing the infidels to Democracy under his dictatorship.
He has lost the support of many of his men and many of his horses. Now his future balance on the White House wall may rest on the fate of Humpty Dumpty-Iraq. But things can quickly change as the King has many media-horses poised to sweep him to safety on the wings of spin.

RATS LEAVING THE SHIP OF FOOLS
It had to happen; it was only a matter of time. All the signs and portents pointed to it and now it’s here, it’s coming at us full blast. Bush has declared the United States of America and about 70% of its inmate’s EVIL.
Remember how he promised to wipe evil off the earth country by country? He pointed out axis of evil; he invaded an evil country, Iraq, and continued to threaten invasion of other evil countries such as Iran and North Korea.
While true that he claims God is directing him in his relentless pursuit of evil eradication, his zeal on this anti-evil quest has obviously gone beyond what was intended. Or perhaps the one giving him directions is really the Devil.
As Bush pushed ahead around the world, he happily depleted the resources of his own fiefdom: the military, which he needs to enforce his domination over the world; the resources, to support his wars, and the conscience of the people.
But there were signs around that a truer Force for Good was upset with George and what he was doing to the planet. Mother Nature was incensed that he had ignored her warnings and flaunted her power so she put on some hurricane, flood, tornado and snowstorm demonstrations to get his attention.
But George just sneered at her fury and continued his warlike ways. What, him bothered? No way. He was safe in the White House or at Camp David or in his own private haven-ranch replete with photo ops.
Because of his inattention to the previous warnings of Mother Nature many people in his nation were made homeless, lost their lives; suffered hardships and began to see Bush in his true colors.
So it came to pass that a murmur of hope passed over this favored land. Gone were the tendencies to follow George’s lead and blame everything on France or the Congressional Democrats or his favorite whipping boy, President Clinton.
The plaques of blinding-Bush-lies fell from their eyes and they saw what he was doing for the first time. A great volume of anger struck down the former polled evaluations of Bush as more Americans became aware of his perfidy.
In response to the dropping polls, Bush and cohorts responded in the only way they knew how – viciously! They attacked their own country’s leadership and heroes, calling them cowards and traitors. And his poll numbers continued to fall.
And as this great struggle against evil continued there were signs of republican-rats leaving the Bush-ship-of-fools. It may only be a matter of time before torture is instituted in the newly formed gulags of the Senate and House of Congress as the Emperor strikes back.

GenderGappers 2005 – 047
DAMNING WITH FAINT PRAISE
Lift your head and smell the breeze – it contains hints of 2008 manifested by the emergence of prospective candidates who are already being interviewed by media political mavens.
The old guys that have already run round the track have not yet come forth to grace the green rooms of TV. But they are making frequent trips to New Hampshire and Ohio, proclaiming that they have reached no decision as yet; just testing the water by visiting old friends.
Among the new guys a trend is beginning as the pundits seek to sex-up the process that is still three years down the road. Here they take their cue from the success the Repugs have had in diminishing the influence and stature of the Democratic Party.
Surely you have seen it over the years and it happens on network and cable. The pundits and reporters ask questions of their guests about what the Repugs are doing and a serious discussing ensues. Then the Dems are referenced and everyone laughs and smiles. There are usually comments that question whether the Dems are still a Major National Party.
This came to an abrupt halt after Dirty Harry Reid took the Repugs to the woodshed and the media by surprised forcing the Senate and the media to note the massive dereliction of duty by the Senate Majority. It also exposed more lies by the Repugs and now the laughter has stopped.
Well, stopped in that situation but it has emerged in another; this time among the Dem newbies to the 2008 race. First the interviewer establishes that the newbie is “considering” a run for president and then asks serious questions.
Then invariably comes the need to spice up the interview. Note that they do not ask the maybe-candidate how he would feel about running against Kerry or Gore or Edwards. No indeed, mano-a-mano is old hat. Who really cares?
With a scarcely concealed grin and a twinkling in the eye, the interviewer asks, “How do you feel about possibly running against Hillary?” Both laugh and trade knowing body language most women can read and most men exhibit to show contempt.
Then they turn serious and the pre-candidate “damns her with faint praise”, spinning out words expressing what a great person Hillary is and what a formidable candidate she would make but he is obvious glossing over of true feelings. The derisive smile indicated true feelings, the message that he wants to pass on to voters.
Sadly, it matters little whether the interviewer is male or female. The women pundits and reporters are trained by men and have sublimated whatever intelligence they were born with to exhibit the discriminatory stones demanded of the job.
It’s not just the Republicans that are afraid of a Hillary candidacy; Democratic male candidates are sweating buckets at the thought of being on stage debating with anyone so intelligent and so experienced in both national and international affairs.
Shame, shame on them for using Repug dirty tricks to besmirch a talented woman from their own Party! Expect it to get worse with the gender card played over and over. Expect to hear how “polarizing” she is; “how unwomanly; must be a lesbo” as her own team, her own Party boys try to knock down her poll numbers before the Primary.
But they should tread lightly for “Hell hath nor fury like a woman scorned”, and Hillary’s brass balls have been tempered in the fierce storms encountered during 8 years in the White House.

ONE FELL OUT OF THE COO COO’S NEST
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” President Franklin Roosevelt declared in a time of grave danger to the country. Years later an unelected president made fear the linchpin of his agenda.
This person, selected by the Supreme Court, began by systematically trying to overturn everything President Clinton had done: he ignored the warnings of Clinton commissions that delineated the terrorism threat to the U.S., laying the country wide open to the 9/11 attack.
He emptied the treasury of the surplus Clinton had build up; he reversed strong environmental laws; he attacked Social Security and the public school system’s programs and Head Start.
America was mostly liked and appreciated by the rest of the world under Clinton but it soon became hated and an object of derision as treaty after treaty was abrogated by the Supreme’s choice that brought secrecy, lies and deceit to the People’s House.
Throughout all this he kept the majority in line by constantly raising the fear level and insisting that the country was about to be devastated by nuclear attacks by the evil ones of several nations.
Now that his chicanery relating to Iraq has been exposed, he is once again resorting to attempts to scare the public into acquiescence. This time it is the threat of an avian [bird] flu epidemic.
Certainly we must take the incidence of this flu seriously but who can possibly trust an individual who has fouled up everything he has attempted so badly; an individual who put our lives in the hands of a “Brownie”, the FEMA director from Hell?
Facts tell us that we can prepare for this possible flue epidemic and we must prepare, but we need not be frightened by his rhetoric. There is time to mobilize the world to create defenses, but it must be done right and it must be open at all times to public inspection and scientific input, not left to the devices of cronies and creationists.
The frightening thing, and we must fear the consequences, is that he has three more years in the Coo Coo’s Nest, our White House, to cause even more damage by appointing his cronies to vital positions then rewarding their failures instead of firing them.
So far only one of the inmates has been caught in lies, removed from his opportunities to do further harm and will soon be put on trial. All the rest are still in there and dangerous.
Vigilance!!!

CHUTZPAH ON CRACK
Now that Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald has slightly lifted the scab from the suppurating boil of lies and crimes that is the Bush administration, can we hope that the so called investigating reporters will stick a fingernail in the opening Fitz made and pry it wide open?
There’s plenty more to investigate and it won’t get done by a press corps sitting around in the “Gaggle” asking questions which are not answered. One would think these reporters would be sick of being constantly shown up by bloggers.
Astounding that following the indictment of Scooter, the Sunday talking heads were genially talking about what Bush could do to “come back”. Tim Russert even suggested that the Democrats should cooperate, and not resist him in his “recovery” if he reaches out to them.
Bush come back?! What are they thinking! Is nothing going to be held against this man who is responsible for lying us into a preemptive war and the murder of thousands? Why on earth should Democrats cooperate with this man?
For some time we thought most of the Congressional Dems were too milquetoast and subservient, as portrayed in a recent Joe Heller cartoon. It showed an elephant in a GOP car with all the wheels falling off [Katrina, Iraq, Delay, Frist] at the starting gate of a race. The elephant is about to race a donkey in another car. The elephant says, “I suppose you’ll take advantage of the situation and take the lead.” The donkey responds, “Are you kidding?!! The president said we’re not to make any unnecessary trips!”
Not true any longer. Minority Leader of the Senate, “Dirty Harry” Reid took the Repugs by surprised and called an audible: Rule 21. This closed the Senate so secrete material might be discussed. A bold move and it could not be stopped by the bully-boys of the majority.
Majority leader, Frist and other Repugs went outside howling and whining to the press, calling Reid’s legitimate motion, a hijack of the Senate. Media mavens were taken off guard and stuttered on about Reid “shutting down the Senate”, parroting Frist’s apoplexic rant until someone found out about Rule 21. Then the media moved in as if they had invented the rule themselves, but the truth is that they were caught as flat footed as the Repugs.
By their bold move, the Democrats forced a public unmasking of how the majority had failed to investigate the fabricated intelligence used by Bush to bring us into war in Iraq. It also appeared to wake up a slumbering media that needs to investigate and put the FREE back into Free Press.
There are still liars in the White House staff that are not yet indicted. One, referred to as “A” is Karl Rove. Is the letter A short for A-hole? Bush and company appear
to be ignoring whole mess, emulating Alfred K. Newman, “What, me worry?”
Others in the VP’s staff, obviously connected to the outing of Valerie Wilson, have been promoted to fill Scooter Libby’s positions. This is not surprising as it is the modus operendi of this administration. Chutzpah on crack!
The Bushies just lie, deny, ignore and blame the Democrats and terrorists as it continues to polish its halo that apparently is a beacon of great attraction for much of the media. Despite the implications of the Libby indictment, both Tim Russert and Chris Matthews are still acting positively ga-ga and kissy face over Bush.
A strange ménage-a-trois even for Republicans.

KARMAGEDDON
So, it isn’t quite the longed for perp-walk but Special Council, Patrick Fitzgerald, laid out a picture of an administration that lies. Not that was any great secret to anyone who has been tuned in to their political shenanigans.
Prior to the Grand Jury’s findings that Scooter Libby not only lied but obstructed justice, any person watching television or reading their newspaper could see who was in trouble and knew it.
In the days leading up to the Grand Jury’s decision we have been treated to the classic wounded beast expression – the smile or rather the snarl shaped into a smile. It started with Tom Delay who smiled on all the media shows, smiled his way in the streets and House and smiled for his mug shot.
Then there was Rove, smiling at every turn as he left his house, got in his car, talked on his cell phone. Scooter was seldom seen but when he was he too had a grin from ear to ear.
“Never let them see you sweat” is the saying but the stink of guilt was all over them, their bosses and very obvious telegraphed by their smiles.
While Fitzgerald was giving his press conference, CNN split its screen to show that Bush was giving an address to the usual crowd of sycophants and Cheney was talking to camo-clad troops. No coincidence there as they tried to take America’s attention away from the expose of their crimes.
Both smiled until their teeth must have hurt. They knew, as did most who listened to the Special Council’s report, that they were responsible for the outing of a CIA agent, characterized by Fitzgerald as a threat to national security.
Sadly, he did not have enough proof to charge them under the present statutes but this may be rectified by an alert Congress in the future. It is purely criminal that lying got us into war, lying got over 2000 troops killed and lying endangered the lives of our intelligence operators.
This Bush administration started out by keeping everything secret from the voters. Many of us thought this was wrong but the media just ignored it. Their lust for power caused highly placed officials to lie, even under oath, confident that they could get away with it.
Lucky for us what goes around comes around and the criminals in the Bush administration are now in the throes of their self made KARMAGEDDON.

BALLOT SHADOW BOXING
Memories fade but still people remember Florida and Ohio with anger, frustration and renewed determination not to let the Repugs diminish their votes again. Still, the people haven’t figured out how to take control of elections from the politicians.
Just recently the people of Iraq, under the tutelage of the Bushies, held their second trip to the polls to answer the question, “Shall we accept the new Constitution?” The ink was hardly dry on their fingers before examples of ballot box stuffing emerged.
At last Bush has proof that he has brought American Democracy to the underprivileged Iraqi nation. Under Saddam, the dictator, voter participation was 100%; under Bush it was over 100% in several areas.
Perhaps the total depends on how many Iraqi are still alive to vote after the compassionate war to liberate them from a cruel dictator, electricity, water, foreign troops and sewage disposal. Or it may be that troops surrounding the voting places outnumbered the voters and made the math difficult.
But the important thing, Bush tells the world, is that they voted despite the danger of bombers or snipers because they wanted freedom so much. Iraqis interviewed mostly agreed that they wanted freedom but mostly from American troops and intervention.
They want to fix their own country now using their own oil. Most Americans want to give it to them and urge the withdrawal of their daughters and sons. They are beginning to begrudge their taxes going to the bottomless pit of shoring up the Iraqi/Bush/Halliburton puppet government.
Some Americans are already wondering if they can form their own militias to surround the polling places here in the U.S. to make them safe for the voters; militias would also provide daycare on site and enforce the use of voting methods now reserved only for the affluent areas.
There is a dawning realization that massive voter reforms must be taken if the count is to be fair. Diebold voting machines especially must be reconfigured by non partisan technicians to accurately record totals.
If America can send trillion$ to Iraq, surely it can learn to spend what it takes on making voting not only fair and balanced but reflective of the will of the people instead of the majority Party.
Along with voting reform the Democrats must present their plans to heal this country after the damage done by Bush. They cannot just sit back and take it for granted that the Planegate scandals will give them the presidential election – think John McCain just waiting in the wings to smash and grab votes right out of the Democratic base!

Memories fade but still people remember Florida and Ohio with anger, frustration and renewed determination not to let the Repugs diminish their votes again. Still, the people haven’t figured out how to take control of elections from the politicians.

WILD ABOUT HARRY
You have to admit that it’s been great fun watching the religious rychus ones squirm over the latest nomination to the Supremes. Harriet Miers, Harry to her friends, is just not what they envisioned when Bush told them he would appoint people that would put prayer in schools, eliminate same gender marriage and abortion.
Her nomination has laid bare a supreme example of how the media uses derogatory terms toward Democrats but when Republicans do the same thing, the media calls it by the devious terms Republicans use.
“We need to know her JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY”, sayeth the Republicans, in their criticism. The media repeats this phrase explaining that Conservatives want someone who will stop gay marriage and abortion. Note that nothing is said about this being a LITMUS TEST as is done when Liberals state their qualifying needs.
This must all be very hard on Harry who obviously has allowed herself to be put into this position out of sheer love and devotion to the person she describes as the most brilliant man she has ever known. Whew! Just another example of exquisite Bushie torture and Harry has to suffer through it with a smile on her face.
Some think she has been put out as a stalking horse, something to take the public’s and media’s attention away from the suppurating pustules of malfeasants in the Bush administration.
Others say that she is just another example of Bush appointing/nominating cronies to any office no matter what their qualifications may be. As of the present moment, most Democrats are waiting for the Senate hearings completely unsure of what to do.
Here’s a suggestion for them . Get busy on putting forward substantiating legislation to aid the poor and in restitution of the damage done in the Gulf States from the recent hurricanes. Bush is already recasting all former Democratic laws and initiatives in his own image hoping to be seen as more compassionate than liberals.
However, as he proceeds, he is tearing down bulwarks that has shorn up the less privileged among us, he has rescinded laws that would give labor a decent wage and has put out the contracts for restoring many areas into the hands of big corporations instead of small local industries and construction businesses.
“But what looked like a chance to talk up new programs is fast becoming a
scramble to save the old ones. Conservatives have already used the storm for causes of their own, like suspending requirements that federal contractors have affirmative action plans and pay locally prevailing wages. And with federal costs for rebuilding the Gulf Coast estimated at up to $200 billion, Congressional Republican leaders are pushing for spending cuts, with programs like Medicaid and food stamps especially vulnerable.”
Whether one is wild about Harry’s nomination or wildly pissed of with it, Liberals must not allow themselves to be led by the nads further down into oblivion by the Bushies. Karl Rove isn’t dead yet and Harry may be forced to resign by her own rychus ones.

DANCE OF THE DONKEYS
While the Elephants walk [GenderGappers 2005-040] in synchrony of mind and baser impulses, the Donkeys dance. Dancing, in this sense, is best exemplified by the famous cartoon showing two Donkeys hitched together by a fairly long rope.
There are two piles of hay close by and each Donkey heads for one but the rope is not long enough for each to reach its chosen pile. They pull and tug at each other, he-haw up a storm but to no avail.
Then having spent themselves, the muscle between their long ears kicks in and they both dance over to one pile of hay, eat that and then both go to the other pile of hay. Voila! There is no end to what can be accomplished when strong, determined minds work together.
Our Donkeys have several piles of metaphorical hay that they want to get to and are determined to drag the other Donkeys to it. There are the Greens, environmentalists extraordinaire; the Liberals who refuse to be ashamed of their name, grass-rooters who never met a union they did not love.
Of course the Progressives, who claim all of the Democratic virtues relating to the poor; the Democratic leadership that shies away from the down and dirty word, Liberal, and then there are various other splinter groups.
The Elephants have managed successfully to play on the conceit of the Donkeys by getting most of them to fear and hate being called a Liberal. They have acquired Money, God and the Flag thereby forcing the Donkeys to plaintively defend what they do not own or be deemed unpatriotic.
Donkeys are forever being played by the Elephants, mostly because they are emotionally connected and engaged in humanity. Donkeys do right for its own sake without bringing in higher powers to justify what is second nature to them.
So it’s easy for the Elephants to scare the Donkey leadership into pulling one way while the rest of the Donkeys pull in several other directions. Humanity to the Elephant is just a mark in the shell game of politics; something to give lip service too.
When there is a presidential election, most Donkeys reluctantly follow whoever has been chosen by the majority, trying to convince themselves that they are not abandoning their principals with their vote.
In 2004, an outside the beltway Wildcard was the runaway choice of the Liberal Grass rooters and Progressives but the Leadership, cowed by the Elephants, were convinced that appearance of a candidate was more important that what he espoused.
The Wildcard was kicked and dumped in exchange for two Senators who raised the comfort level of the Congressional Donkeys and their money machines, because in their words, “he was not electable”. In this instance most of the kicking was done by the Donkeys while the Elephants sat on the sidelines gleefully watching.
Playing on the feelings of the rank and file, who would settle for anything that wasn’t the dumbest living Elephant, most Donkeys held their noses and eschewed their own favorite piles of hay at the polls. Those who could not, stayed away, horrorstruck by the way the Senator candidate was making a balls-up of campaign rhetoric.
But most Donkeys were convinced by the elders in DC that voting for this presentable ticket would mean a Donkey in the White House which would help all of their causes. They were told that if they voted for the Wild Card they would lose but votes for the Senators would assure them a victory in 2004.
They believed, they followed and they lost. Those who paid the piper called the tune. Who will be the next Lady or Lord of the Dance for the Donkeys?

THE ELEPHANT WALK
One of the most satisfying and enjoyable programs on TV this week was watching an irate N.Y. Congressman, Peter King slam into Hardball’s Matthews. King was charging him with hurting the efforts following the hurricanes by making things out to be worse than they are.
He was especially angry that his friend, Michael Chertoff of Homeland Security, came off looking bad and blamed Chris for showing this. He was also angry that Chris and the rest of the media were blaming Bush for not doing a good job.
Matthews baited him, trying to get him to choose one or the other as blameworthy and King showed the stress of defending the indefensible. However, he had his Party’s talking points to aid him.
So, whether he was defending Chertoff or Bush, he raged against the Democratic Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans. They were to blame, he insisted. They did nothing; Bush and Chertoff came in and saved the day.
Although Matthews seldom pushes Republicans, he asked for specifics and of course the old bit about all the school buses that were never used by the mayor came up. An old talking point that has been disproved but it mattered little to King.
Pressed even harder on Halliburton getting the no-bid contracts for work being done in the destroyed areas, he claimed that it was OK because in an emergency a job didn’t need to be bid as there was a need to hurry.
Matthews then interjected that many of the contracts given Halliburton were not due to start for weeks. King’s answered obliquely, going back to the mother-of-all-talking points as he said, “Bill Clinton gave Halliburton more contracts than Bush has.”
Surprisingly, Chris called him on it with a look and a few words that made everyone listening aware that Clinton had no ties to Halliburton and that every single bit of crap the Republicans could get on him was put into their attempt to discredit him.
In the long run it really will not matter since Representative King and the others who protect their cronies ignore the truth. They will make the same claims, tell the same lies and do everything possible to protect Bush from getting any blame whatsoever.
But it was a great example of political cronyism and the way our governmental representatives stand up for their cronies even if a whole coastline of cities is drowning. And it showed how an interviewer can squeak out some truth if he keeps the pressure on.
Brown, who had resigned from FEMA, is now back working for it. Fired for incompetence he was hired back as a consultant. Cronyism works well for all who know where the bodies are buried. The farce that is called an investigation is being carried on even now – cronies investigating cronies.
As Bush’s feet of clay are becoming so very obvious, Republican lackeys lumber out to the media with identical talking points in hand, somewhat over shadowed by the indictment of Tom Delay but ready when there is an opening.
They resemble the “Elephant Walk”, practiced for years by fraternities and sporting organizations. As part of the initiation process, all the newbies are forced to get naked, bend over, reach between their legs and grab the penis of the guy behind them who is doing the same to the guy behind, who is doing the same …
And then the tightly knit group goes around in a circle --bound together for life by the penis power of the Elephant Walk and the sacred rite of the crony.

GenderGappers 2005 – 039
CHIP, CHIPPING AWAY
It’s not the frontal assaults that have hurt us but the constant nibbling at the edges of our hard won Civil Rights. Perhaps you have noticed how women’s reproductive self determination has been limited, bit by bit.
Roe v Wade was a long time coming; its departure may be only a few more nibbles away as former cases to limit that “settled law”, previously turned down, are re-brought to a new and imbalanced Supreme Court.
A court that will have new members nominated by Bush who talks a big deal about women’s rights, but actually has been actively working to limit them. Oh, yes, there are women in his cabinet; his mother, Barbara and Laura are influences, but don’t be fooled.
For all his talk both Afghanistan and Iraq have limited women’s rights, not extended them and he just gave us his pick for Chief Justice who makes it plain in his decisions that women should be discouraged when it comes to careers outside the home.
And that’s just one of his attitudes, shared with Bush, that indicate his determination to bring this country back into the 19th Century. Women are not the only target. We have already noted the slow erosion of labor union’s power to support worker’s rights.
Taking advantage of the huge damage caused by Katrina, the Bushies are suspending a series of regulations that had guaranteed the going local wage, and affirmative action for minorities, while offering tax incentives for businesses in the affected region.
The assault of this government is against the poor, the working class and the needy. Bush has tried to eliminate Social Security, so necessary to many, and will certainly continue to chip away at who receives it and how it is administered until he kills the program.
Don’t expect an all out shock and awe campaign mounted against Title IX and XI. It will be slow and insidious. Already scholarships for women are being curtailed and the cracks in the glass ceiling are being filled in.
Appointments of women to federal positions by Bush are more often than not political paybacks for men who have given money to his campaigns. Some are as scary as the former head of FEMA who recently resigned following the debacle of Katrina.
Washington, DC — FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford has appointed a man who has spent the majority of his career in the office of veterinary medicine to the position of acting director of the Office of Women's Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Norris Alderson will replace Dr. Susan Wood, a key women's health expert, who resigned on August 31 in protest of the FDA's handling of the application to make Plan B emergency contraception (EC) available over the counter.
Now while tempers flare as officials and politicians look for cover, women’s protective laws in our society were brought forth as whipping boys. The slowness of volunteer fire fighters to reach New Orleans was blamed on laws to protect women. FEMA held them up in Atlanta so they could take classes on sexual harassment and community relations.
The White House claimed that its slowness to respond was due to Bush fearing the repercussions if he overruled a female mayor. The facts belie this but this excuse is still in the talking points as the reason Bush was slow to react.
In other words, the troubles caused by Katrina were compounded by the laws passed to insure women fairness in the workplace. There is action on the way to make this precedent for abolishing these laws. If an employer is charged with harassment, just claim an emergency situation.
More little drops of court appointment water grinding down the edifice of fairness build up by the struggles of brave women will continue just as long as women sit by and let it.

Gendergappers 2005 - Extra
WONDROUS THINGS
It is said that faith can move mountains but no one seems to know just how far bull shit can be thrown and still keep believers on their knees before this administration.
Posturing somewhere between a political looser and an itinerant preacher, Bush proclaimed, “In the life of our nation we have seen that wondrous things are possible when we act with God’s grace.” Geez-amighty! Hala-looya!
In the life of our nation while he has been controlling the entire government, House, Senate, Supreme Court and Oval Office, we have been inundated with his avowals that he is doing the Lord’s business here on Earth.
So would that mean that the following wondrous things were under the auspices of God’s grace?
Two rigged and stolen elections
Divisive tactics to control free speech
Faith based attempt to meld religion and politics
Tax cuts on the riches Americans
Destruction of the World Trade Center – warnings ignored
Education and other programs mandated that were never funded
Sky rocketing drug prices
Reduction of environmental controls
Strip mining allowed on public lands
Opening Alaska for oil production
Shock and awe preemptive killing of thousands of Iraqi
Reciprocal killings of American troops
Attack against Social Security
Inexperienced cronies appointed to Homeland Security management
Cronies appointed to head up FEMA
The drowning floods of New Orleans with loss of many lives
Patriot Act and Son of Patriot Act
Unfunded entitlement programs sending states into bankruptcy
Renewal of tax cuts to rich
A bankruptcy law that hurts the poor and small businesses
The shame of allowing prisoner torture in Abu Ghraib and Git-Mo
Off shore oil drilling encouraged
Keeps a known felon on staff, Karl Rove, who outed a CIA agent
One humongous national debt
And this is only a partial list of the wondrous things George Bush is responsible for as he admittedly “acts with God’s grace”. His legacy already is that of the most secretive and dangerous administration in the history of the country. The “suffering South” will long remember how he emulated Nero – staying on vacation, playing his guitar while New Orleans flooded and families drowned.
However, a side affect of all these wondrous things is that they illustrate the total folly of combining church and state. The founders of this country knew what they were doing; Bush doesn’t have a clue and doesn’t give a shit.

JOURNALISM REDUX
Arguably, one of the most important and jaw dropping occurrence regarding the media has been sadly overlooked as the horrors of Katrina occupies the attention of almost everybody. Initially it did have a great effect – many people were so surprised that they did a double take, especially when tuning in to FOX News.
Some even wondered if the end of the world was coming. Even members of the media were aghast. That is, until they slowly comprehended that gosh oh gee, that is what reporting the news is all about. That is journalism. That is what reporters are supposed to do – hunt down the facts and present all the information to the American public.
NBC’s Brian Williams noted that a lasting legacy of Katrina for journalists may be the end of an unusual four year period of deference to people in power. Most of the rest of us were first astounded and then delighted to see the former hoards of media suck-ups actually go after the Bushies hammer and tongs.
It seems that reporters were seeing things that they could not justify by the Republican Party line; things that caused them to start thinking like journalists and for the first time in many years they started working on behalf of their country, not as sycophants of Bush-Power. Nothing like close contact with human misery and death to sound a wake-up call.
Embedded and secluded as they were, and still are, in Afghanistan and Iraq, reporters never seemed to get the full force of the horror of these Bush wars, but they “got it” in New Orleans. Remember how every appointment or nomination by President Clinton was vetted by the media to find and expose every item in the past of these people?
We have just been shown a fresh example of how the press has been laying down on the job for six years. We learned that the former head of FEMA lied on his resume. The media never questioned or investigated but rather took the credentials of “Brownie” and every other appointment to be just what Bush declared them to be. Of course, it didn’t matter until Brown screwed up so badly with Katrina.
One can only hope that the media in its new found mission will now investigate the Bush government “without deference to people in power”. What of the other Bush appointees? Will a media that has located its testicles and taken its cranium out of its rectum continue to serve the American people or will it lapse back into its old lazy habits.
Democratic leaders must continue in the manner of Rep. Nancy Palosi and challenge reporters who take the Bush spin to be fact. Like Palosi, they should ask interviewing reporters if they are on the Bush payroll since they are espousing their causes.
Reporters showed us the facts, but the network and cable head-honchos are stillsucking on the Bush-Power teats. CNN’s Wolf regularly interviews people insisting that they “defend” why they embrace viewpoints that are contrary to the Republican Party line. Tim Russet, likewise -- unbelievable! Meanwhile, Chris Matthews wobbles on the fence.
Now that we have had one miracle, it’s time for another really big one. That is to destroy the secrecy that the Bushies have wrapped everything in to prevent us from knowing what is being done to us. Just as the Bush administration covered up the truth regarding the pollution of air and water caused by the attack on 9/11, it is now covering up the true facts regarding the air and water pollution in New Orleans.
So far we are prevented from learning the death toll and the true cost of Bush bungling because of his inept choices of leaders for EPA, Homeland Security or FEMA, for starters.
This invasive secrecy is terribly costly to every American and to the country and its environment. Now is the time for the media to stand up and continue to break down walls of silence and demand the truth. WE CAN HANDLE IT!

PREPARE FOR THE WORST
"Never did we dream that they would use our OWN AIRPLANES as weapons." -- April 20, 2004.
"I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees."-- Sept 1, 2005
-- Words to die for from Bush.
Due to the auspicious passing of Chief Justice Rehnquist, John Roberts will most certainly be the next Chief Justice of the Supremes. Confirmation will proceed fairly quickly since the country is nearly totally involved in rescue work necessitated by the floods.
Where it comes to political ploy and politics in general, Bush’s brain, Karl Rove never misses a beat and it makes Bush look both lucky and intelligent. But, when it comes to governing and acting the part of the CEO of the country, Bush falls flat on his face and we suffer.
When this happens, Karl comes to the rescue, pulling dirty political tricks out of his ass that appear to exonerate Bush from responsibility. These are manifested by Bush appearing before a microphone, coached to look sincere and bewildered saying, “Who could have known or Who could have imagined or who could have anticipated?”
This is followed by Bush going around the country talking to groups of thoroughly vetted loyal fans. In the safety of these audiences, his crocodile tears flow as he professes his extreme sorrow over those who have been hurt. He also takes these occasions to blame others for what happened, while professing earnestly that he would take the blame anyway because that’s what presidents do – “And I’m the President!”
Then when the blogs suggest that the administration should and did know and that Bush is misrepresenting the facts, Rove sends out his spin flunkies to his lap-dog media with deliberate lies, deconstructing weasel words and injured innocence.
This administration is identified by arrogance and incompetence. Now the country is deeply troubled and many nations around the world are offering help. Instead of giving them thankful acceptance, the Bush administration is giving most of them the cold shoulder.
How long is it going to take for people to understand that the promise of safety Bush gave to America is illusory? What has and is happening with Katrina should open everyone’s eyes to the fact that the invincible cowboy image is just a mirage.
A teacher, when announcing the exam he was going to give, added this advice his students, “Prepare for the worst because the worst is prepared for you.”
We are more vulnerable than ever with Bush in charge. So far his reign has been disaster after disaster for America, draining both monetary and human resources to a dangerous level. This appears to be just what Karl and George had in mind all the time.
There is a real chance that before the 2008 elections the country will be in such dire straits that Bush will declare martial law and suspend the presidential vote, making him president/king/messiah for life.
Prepare for the worst.

ACTS OF MEN
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” --Matthew 7:27
One thing is as certain as death and taxes. If the hurricane, Katrina, had wrecked havoc on a group of Blue States, we’d be hearing that it was the wrath of God visited on sinning Liberals.
But it was Red States that have suffered this particular “act of God”. Called “act of God” because our culture always blamed calamities, not caused by humans, on the Supernatural. It’s a staple phrase in our insurance policies.
Liberals already know that the real acts of God began as Katrina blew through this area of the Southland. It came with countless acts of kindness from those who had a roof over their heads to those who had lost everything.
It came as people, food, water, supplies and money poured forth from all the other States, both Blue and Red, eager to help those thousands of families in trouble. Brave rescue workers picked others out of the water and from rooftops using helicopters and boats.
We will be seeing more acts of God as the poisonous flood is tamed and order is slowly restored. It will be time consuming and backbreaking to get the water levels down. It is heartbreaking to see the irreparable losses of life and property sustained by so many who had so little to begin with.
But Katrina was not alone in causing this catastrophic act of God. Acts [or in this case, inactions] of men had much to do with it. True, Katrina blew and rained but it was the horrendous floods that broke the back of a city and they were man-made and preventable.
http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,372455,00.html
The flood is not just water sitting in the bowl that used to be New Orleans. For starters, it is sewerage, gasoline, oil, dead bodies, city detritus and tons of other poisonous or caustic materials dissolved out from containers in countless storage areas.
In 2001, long before 9/11, the Bush appointed FEMA and army engineers warned of the imminence of a horrendous catastrophic flood unless steps were taken to immediately correct the problems of pumps and levees.
Not only did Bush ignore these warnings, but he cut the funding for levee maintenance. Instead, he spent the country’s money on lowering taxes for the rich, a quagmire preemptive war in Iraq and getting reelected.
He ignored many warnings about an attack on this country; started a preemptive war with Iraq instead of going after the terrorists that instigated 9/11; he lied over and over again and decimated our National Guard. HE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE both for causing these conditions and for his monstrous ineptness in dealing with the consequences.
“Ill fares the land, to hastening ills a prey,Where wealth accumulates, and men decay:…”
--The Deserted Village by Oliver Goldsmith
