OUTED BY OUR PARADOXES

A phrase one hears quite often during pre-election discussion is, “common wisdom”. According to common wisdom if a candidate does this then that happens.

We also are told that the electorate is sick of the fighting between the two major political parties. The want them to get along and pass laws that benefit all Americans.

Many people are raving about Barack Obama because he speaks of “one America” – not red states and blue states. Common wisdom says that he has become a rock star and that the adulation of the people can sweep him into the White House in ’08.

We are often told that people do not like negative advertising; conventional wisdom is that negative advertising works. One thing for sure is that it works for the media in that the media loves contentiousness.

It sure works for the ad itself in that if the media loves it, it will play it over and over again ad nauseum, saving the candidate tons of money and getting wide dispersal of the ad.

We are told that people do not want to see ads that are racist or that show a person’s disability, yet their very unsavoriness and disgusting bad taste give those ads wings and tons of air time.

These are not examples of a multiple paradox. These discrepancies just show us what humans really think and how they vote, not just what they say. That’s why polls should not be relied on.

The fact is, conflict is king during elections and most other activities humans engage in. In sports a home run or a touchdown may thrill the crowd but nothing brings it to its feet and causes delicious pandemonium like a fight among the players.

We may say we don’t like nasty ads but they are the ones that get our attention. They are the ones that prick our interest and make us think. They are the ones that conventional wisdom says WORK!

Although males may get turned on by pornography, it is the rough sex that appeals the most. Their ultimate turn on is watching two women fight – howzat for chivalry?

Billions are not spent to teach peace and build up countries and people but trillions are spent for war and destruction of countries and people.

Crowds don’t gather for awarding citizens for community work; they gather by the droves at fires or accidents. We have not moved very far from the days when a public hanging was a delightful sport that everyone loved to participate in.

Today violence is de rigor on TV drama, news and even comedy sketches. No wonder kids bring guns to school and shoot teachers and other students.

We have enough problems without pimping for our paradoxes. A little self-recognition would go far toward not only winning elections but also making us fit to be the Party in power.

GOOSED, McCCAIN SAUCES THE GENDER

Google back to the 2002 election where Senator Max Cleland was running for reelection to the Senate. In case you missed it, Cleland is a veteran who lost three limbs to war.
The Repugnuts smear and crud machine went after him with the vengeance. He was labeled a traitor in ads showing him morphing into Saddam Hussain.
The ad was reported by the media as news with little or no criticism of this despicable tactic used against a veteran who had given so much and suffered so much for his country.

Now fast forward to the present. The media’s hero and favorite politician, John McCain, a born again liar and far from straight talking, joined the other Repugnuts in blaming President Clinton for North Korea’s bomb test.

Senator Clinton, who knew attacks would come to her about her husband’s administration, responded immediately. She corrected McCain’s so-called facts clearly and publicly.

Typically, McCain took the low road in reply. On CBS’s The Early Show, he was asked why he would blame the Clintons for North Korea. He said, he “was responding to attacks made on President Bush by Mrs. Clinton, Senator Kerry, Senator Reid and other Democrats.”

Maureen Dowd, columnist for the NYTimes wrote, “This week, he [McCain] managed to attack her three ways in one sentence: as a senator, as a wife and as a future opponent.”

Of course Senator Clinton’s staff responded, linking McCain to Bush’s failed policies and adding, “People were enamored of his independence, but now he just seems like Bush’s windup toy, the obedient corporal.”

One adviser brought up a comparison of the way McCain looked on the CBS program to how he did when he gave up his crew mates in Hanoi. The media jumped all over that. The media makes it clear that that a war hero cannot be made accountable. Of course, it doesn’t apply to Senator Max Cleland – he is a Democrat.

All this points up the Repugnut’s ‘strategery’ to put the blame on Bill for everything. It keeps the Clinton name out there covered with the mud of their lies. And since this country is rampantly sexist, it appeals to men whose mental development is still in diapers.

IT AIN'T OVER TIL...

GenderGappers 2006 – 041

IT AIN’T OVER TIL…

…the fat schemer says it’s over and Karl Rove is still out there working the spin. Don’t get complacent and think like Alec Baldwin who said, “You can lie to the American people… but you diddle one Page … and it’s over.”

The blogs and groups are alive with the sound of chortling about the polls favorable to Democrats. But polls can change in an instant; they can turn around and bite you in the ass in November.

This is not your mother’s election. All Bush needs is another nuclear threat and North Korea steps up to the plate. If that falls through he’ll doubtless put on another terrorist attack to blame on the Democrats.

Surely you have heard the crooked talker, McCain, blathering about how President Clinton is responsible for what North Korea has done for the last six years.

The voting areas and equipment all over the country are susceptible to Rove’s chicanery. Are the Democrats on guard? Have they enlisted an army of geeks to monitor the voting machines both within and outside the polling places? Are phones and wireless covered?

Now at this crucial juncture, many of us are wondering what has happened to Air America Radio. Since its birth it has been a bastion of Liberal/Progressive talk bringing hope and humor to all of us in the hinterlands.

This still may be true in some places but up here in Northern Vermont and New York WTWK Talk is abysmal. It is on air sporadically. It may start anytime after 7 AM and abruptly goes off air just as Rachel Maddow comes on at 6 PM. Often a commercial is played while the programming is going on and there seems to be no one in the station when one calls them.

WTWK used to be so great that we told undecideds and even Repugs about it. Many enjoyed it as a fresh change from the right wing crap of Imus, Rush or local Conservative talk.

Now these people are calling to ask us if this is the way Democrats would handle the government; that is, start out great and then peter out in the face of a crisis.

We hear they blame it on lack of sponsors but the right wingers seem to get along OK or are they faking it and the GOP is really footing the bill? We also heard Al Franken say on a TV interview that AAR would probably fold up. No reason given, no further comment.

Could it be that the GOPers have mounted a boycott against any company that advertised on AAR? Certainly is the kind of thing they have pulled off in the past.

Whatever the reason for AAR’s hideous performance, Rove doesn’t need to provide an October Surprise – the Democrats will providing their own if they allow Air America Radio to falter and die.

GRAND OLD PERVERTS

GenderGappers 2006 – 041

GRAND OLD PERVERTS

What an uproar! The media, the Democrats, the Republicans, the Blogs, the whole country is focused like a laser beam on some House Pages and a dirty old man.

Yes, it’s a terrible thing to sexually assault anyone. It is especially heinous to sexually assault children. Pedophilia is the pits of human actions. But stand back and look at this situation and ask yourself if we are truly against perversion.

Why is there outrage now that it is teen age boys? Where was the outrage when many women were raped in our military schools and by our own male forces in Iraq and Afghanistan? Not to mention our own forces rapes of women and men in countries we occupied.

Where is the outrage as we imagine [since we are not allowed to view]the rows of flag draped coffins of young men and women that Bush sacrificed in a preemptive war and where is the outrage at the unseen tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi dead, wounded and displaced?

Where is the outrage at the continued violence against these people because of the Bush preemptive invasion? Where is the outrage that we are not safer now but have spawned generations of terrorist worldwide?

Where is the outrage that Bush and his cadre not only permitted torture of prisoners but also sent them to other countries to be tortured even more?

Where is the outrage that Bush lied and lied and lied and the media still say “MISLED”?

Where is the outrage at a media that mostly just sat back and went along with a “good old boy they’d like to have a beer with”? Where is the outrage that now belatedly these same media are huffing and puffing as if they really were beginning to report the truth and do their job?

Where is the outrage from the many falling fig leaves exposing the scandalous conduct of the Bush administration where trusted officials of government sold out their constituents for free trips and girlies?

Where is the outrage that A.G. Gonzales has ordered Judges NOT to find Bush guilty of anything – otherwise they are unpatriotic in a time of war? Where is the outrage at the loss of Habeas Corpus?

And where is the utter horror and outrage that our Congress passed a bill that prevents us from holding Bush responsible for his crimes here at home and all over the world?

Where ever it is we fervently hope it appears in our voting booths, strong and decisive, in November.
