WATER-BOARDING FOR JESUS

We got a lot of religion as youngsters growing up in a small rural community. There was Sunday services and Sunday School following that. Thursday night prayer meetings every week and summers filled with Vacation Bible School.

But try as we may, so far, we have not remembered hearing or found anything about the plus or minuses of water-boarding or other torture that was advocated by Jesus.

Now the reason we are seeking this connection goes back to when Bush first ran for president and stated that the person he most admired above all was Jesus Christ.

Since then he has claimed and professed that his decisions are absolute because he prays; he gets his orders from Christ so we reviewed connections between Jesus and water.

And there were quite a few. Outstanding among them was his ability to walk on water – not the frozen kind, mind you, real water. We know that at least once he placed water directly onto people. To demonstrate that a leader should server her/his followers, he washed the feet of his disciples with water.

He turned water into wine but never, as far as we could discover, did he force anyone to drink it. His message seemed to be one of peace and good will toward humanity. His capacity for tolerance was enormous, even toward those who tortured him.

So yes, he did have personal knowledge of torture from the treatment he received, especially when he was nailed to a cross; and we know he got violent when the corporations of his time plied their trade in the temples of worship.

But, after due consideration, we submit that George Walker Bush had/has no knowledge or communication whatever with Jesus. His most admired mentor or mentors may be found for all to review in the pages of Deuteronomy, for example in Chapter 11.
“23Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
“24Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
“25There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.”
Torture and mayhem runs rampant in these pages, along with war, the mass killings of babies and women and men along with specific instructions as in Chapter 12.
“2Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
“3And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.”
But there is more, much more in this Book and others that may have served as a template for Bush. Check it out for yourselves with this URL or many others you can Google. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=5&chapter=1&version=31
