BO CHANGE = BUSH STYLE FEAR

Amid all the sturm and drang of the Primary battle of the century, there is an uncomfortable deja vous clawing at the raw nerve ends of memory. It has to do with the blogs, the pundits, the meanstream media mavins and especially with Air America Radio.

What a joy it was for many of us when AAR first came on the air. After months and years of little or no Liberal Talk, either on radio or TV, finally there were voices that echoed our own thoughts and even expanded them.

Along with this delight came hosts that were exciting and erudite. They informed and incited us to action. They united us as one voice against the Bush administration, gave us an outlet for our feelings and reported the other side of the news that had been missing for years.

Finally we had a voice after so many mute years and just in time to change things in Washington, DC. Then, even though no one appeared to set out a chair, reality sat in.

It began slowly with the start of the Primary. At first it posited each campaign in a fair manner, giving equal consideration to the large slate of candidates.

Then gradually it all changed as host after host made their choice and slanted the information. This gave rise to callers choosing the host that favored their own candidate. These shows were then reduced to love-ins and very little else in the way of discussion of candidate merits.

From simple preference came the beginning of what would quickly become full-blown prejudice against another candidate, culminating in the absolutely inexcusable rantings of Randi Rhodes.

Once Edwards bowed out and left Hillary and Barack as the sole contenders, outright nastiness inflamed the blogs with AAR hosts not too far behind as they encouraged callers to go to and beyond the limit with their comments. Thus HRC was excoriated while BO was canonized as a saint that could do no wrong. AAR became AOR- Air Obama Radio – and it still is.

MSNBC, led by Russert, Olbermann and Matthews, had long been spewing hatred toward women in general and Hillary in particular. It kept kicking it up a notch by bringing in AOR hosts, such as Rachel Maddow, who barely pretends to be without bias, and the most vicious voice against Hillary, a real crap-act – Ed Shultz.

Blitzer of CNN and his pit bull, Cafferty vied with MSNBC for the title of who could slap Hillary down the hardest. This rather backfired as it stirred up many still apathetic women and men voters. And surprisingly, Lou Dobbs became one CNN host who showed great fairness toward Hillary and even criticized BO at times – something unheard of by the majority of pundicrats.

Strange to say, FOX News became the station of choice for Hillary supporters simply because it was FAIR AND BALANCED TOWARD HER AND THE OTHERS.

Still, AORadio continues to do yeoman work for the BO campaign using the very tactics it once called despicable when the Repugs radio/TV did it; the hosts embraced the hallmark of George Bush et al and made it their own – INDUCE FEAR.

Here’s host Lionel exhorting listeners about how to whip those women supporting Hillary into line and onto the Obama-train: “Be nice and reasonable,” he cautions. “The key is to scare the hell out of them.

“Remind them of how old the Supremes are getting and how McCain would pick someone who would make abortion illegal. Women want the war to end and MacC will make war last 100 years. Women are suckers for kids, universal health care and schools so remind them of how these programs will not happen and what we now have will be under funded. Tell them Mc’ll privatize SS, etc.”

In short, Lionel and others are advocating exactly what they screamed about when they first broadcasted as Air Americans. See what a difference an -O- can make? Politics as usual – Obama style, is patterned after Bush’s success with fear mongering. Oh, brave new obamaworld.

I do not find any qualities in Obama that indicate he is capable of bringing about this cooperation. I see arrogance, imperiousness, inflexibility, and contempt for those who do not hand him what he wants. He does not appear to want unity, only capitulation. Anglachel’s Journal

How ironic is it that we internet activists have been hollering for eight years for Democrats to fight, and now that we have a fighter on our hands, so many of those hollerers are hollering AGAINST her? lambert at Corrente

Obama merely has his words, hope and the video of his wife sounding unpatriotic which will be used over and over and over again. And that's why so many Clinton supporters are reluctant to vote for Obama if he becomes the nominee. It's not because they are bitter. It is because they chose Hillary over Obama for two real reasons: experience and definition.

We know what we are getting with Hillary Clinton. We've read the label that has been on the box for years. And, yes, we may not like everything about her, but at least we know what we are getting when we support her. There are no surprises, no baggage left unexamined. Hillary has been in the public eye for years. She has a record that can be followed and seen in plain view. We know who she is. We know that she is a hard worker and a smart fighter who will never give up. And we have a pretty good idea of what she would do as president. Perhaps most importantly though, we know that she wins vital states that have proven to be essential to winning the WH.

“… coupled with the growing list of gaffes, the Great Lakes in Oregon, needing more Arabic translators in Afghanistan, his campaign in 57 states, Kentucky being closer to Arkansas than Illinois, his future meeting with the President of Canada and yesterday, his speech of Sen Kennedy in the past tense is too reminiscent of the current White House occupant. It's beginning to look like we are being hoodwinked and bamboozled. Again.” -- From a reader’s comment on Kristin’s article above.

“Can we conclude from this that it has been policy for Mr. Obama to NOT rein in his supporters and bloggers previously? Can we conclude that even with his own very optimistic figures, Mr. Obama realizes he needs some if not all of the Clinton 17 MILLION VOTES? Does this make anyone else feel as if they cannot vote for this person? After all, some of his supporters indulged themselves—without a word of protest from Mr. Obama until NOW—with bashing Hillary, and bashing women, the older votes, lunch bucket Dems, the Appalachians, and Latinos over and over again. Many of us were taunted for being our selves—actually BEING women or older or carrying lunch buckets, etc., etc.—as if there is something WRONG with us because we ARE women or older or lunch bucket workers or from certain areas or of certain heritage. We were personally attacked. And Mr. Obama knew it.”

Solidarity Sunday (by garychapelhill at The Confluence)
We have been talking a lot lately about the “sweetie” commenters that will try to butter us up and convince us that we must “take them back”. Most women have been through this before… Women have far too many times acquiesced to further the goals of men… Many women opposed the 15th amendment which gave black men the right to vote because it didn’t include women, but in the end many deferred… Feminists in the ’60’s allied with men to end the Vietnam War, only to have the men abandon them once their goal was accomplished. See, the war did end, but afterward when women wanted to pass the ERA, support from a lot of those men evaporated… We all need to stick to our guns. Hillary must be our nominee. Promises and sweet talk will not work this time. These promises, I should add, are more and more resembling threats as they get increasingly desperate. Not going to work. Not this time. We have the power, and we’re going to use it.

Except...as shrewd Lambert of Corrente observes, Kerry did one better in 2004, drawing 80,000 - 100,000 people in Philadelphia -- and we know how well that worked out.

Blast from the past: Obama calls Sen. Barbara Boxer “a cutie” (Plus: update on how we can fight back)

Posted: 16 May 2008 12:28 PM CDT

(cross-posted at Reclusive Leftist)

In the wake of sweetie-gate, someone emailed me this story from a year ago:

Obama, speaking at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, raised eyebrows Monday at a fundraiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer when, as we reported, the Illinois Senator described his Democratic colleague from California as “a fighter, a leader, a charmer, a cutie.”

The remark “set off a lot of murmuring,” said one Democratic strategist in attendance, “among a lot of very strong powerful women around Boxer there who were offended.”

The descriptive of a powerful feminist senator raised “a strategic question: is (Obama) ready for prime time? You don’t call a U.S. senator a ‘cutie,’” said the strategist, whose take was echoed by others.

Actually you do, if you’re Barack Obama. U.S. senators, journalists, pharmacists, factory workers – they’re all “sweeties” or “cuties” to Obama. As long as they’re female, that is. (Can you imagine him as President? Look out, Angela Merkel.)

What the hell is this man’s problem? He’s my age — mid-40s — and there is no excuse for this. He should know damn well not to talk to or about women in that manner. It reminds me of my first job back in 1980, when the male boss called all the women in the office “honey” and expected them to fetch him coffee. Workin’ 9 to 5…

But let me get back to that Boxer article from last year. Listen to this next bit (still quoting the unnamed strategist):

From an opposition research point of view, this marked “a swing and a miss” by Team Hillary: “It would have been easy to get the blogosphere and make sure Fox News and Drudge Report knew about (the quote), and watch it go .. because in a few months, nobody could have gotten away on it.”

The irony.

See, way back in February of 2007, people like me and that strategist and the women surrounding Sen. Boxer and probably the journalist who wrote that article — we all thought that something like publicly referring to a female senator as a “cutie” would be an automatic foul. We thought that public expressions of sexism would be frowned upon.

Thousands of Hillary Nutcrackers later, we know better. “Cutie” and “sweetie” are the least of it.

But the pushback is here. People are pissed. The premature coronation of Obama this past week — after Hillary won Indiana, after she won West Virginia in a blowout, when she’s sitting on the lead in the popular vote — was the last straw. Since the fat-cat politicians and pundits don’t give a good goddamn about sexism, we’ll just have to raise a stink ourselves. Just us chickens (and some enlightened roosters).

Cynthia Ruccia and Kimberly Myers went on Bill O’Reilly last night to explain why the treatment of Hillary is a deal-breaker for women and why they plan to leave the Democratic party in protest. The tubes have been burning up ever since with people trying to find out how they can contact Ruccia and help out. People have even been emailing me, and I didn’t know anything about it until this morning. HillBuzz has the name of the group and the contact info.

Steve Corbett is a radio host in Pennsylvania who apparently reached his own breaking point yesterday, and is now launching Operation Turndown to let the DNC know that we’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore!

Women’s boycott of Obama percolates up to the mainstream media

Posted: 16 May 2008 12:24 PM CDT

(cross-posted at Reclusive Leftist)

I am woman, hear me roar.

ABC’s Political Punch reports on “female supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton who are angry — at the Democratic Party, at the Obama campaign, or at the general situation that sees their candidate facing tough times, in their view, in part because of sexism.”

I’m glad our collective voices are starting to make an impact. But the amazing thing is that the guest blogger behind this piece, Rick Stein, talks about the whole phenomenon like it’s something through the Hubble Telescope that’s so far away and vague and weird that nobody can be sure what the hell it is. Dig it:

I confess to being a man who has not always seen what his female friends and colleagues see as sexist in this race. What do you think? Has Sen. Clinton faced particular (unfair) challenges because of her gender? More than Sen. Obama has faced because of his race?

Is it humanly possible to be that oblivious? I mean, if Stein were a tree sloth or something, sure. Tree sloths sleep a lot and I get the impression they’re not all that plugged in to the news. But how can any sentient non-tree sloth American be this clueless? We’re talking Hillary Nutcrackers, people. “Iron my shirt.” An anti-Hillary 501c called C.U.N.T. Another one called “Stop running for President and make me a sandwich.”

Maybe Rick needs to read this: Why I will not vote for Obama even if he’s the nominee — and why you shouldn’t either. Or check out Shakespeare’s Sister’s Hillary Sexism Watch (which has ninety entries at this point, yes, ninety, count ‘em, ninety). Or read Marie Coco’s A Farewell to the ‘Hillary Nutcracker’ and Other Obscenities. Or wade through this handy summary by Erica Barnett:

Hillary Clinton is a bitch. A big ol’ bitchy bitch. And a cunt. A “big fucking whore.” Fortunately, you can “call a woman anything.” She’s “Nurse Ratched.” She’ll castrate you if she gets a chance. She would like that. She’s a “She-Devil.” She’s a madam, and her daughter’s a whore. She’s frigid, and she can’t give head. She’s a “She-Devil.” A lesbian. A nag. When things get tough, she cries like a big dumb GIRL. In fact, she’s just that — a “little girl.” In FACT, she wants to “cry her way to the White House.” To be, ahem, “Crybaby-in-Chief.” That proves that she’s not tough enough. But she’s also not feminine enough. She’s “screechy.” She’s an “aging, resentful female.” She’s “Sister Frigidaire.” She really ought to quit running for President and stick to housework. She basically spent her entire time as First Lady going to tea parties. She’s a monster who just won’t die. In fact, she really should just die. You can buy a urinal target with her face on it to express what you really think of her. OMG she’s got claws! She’s crazy. In fact, she’s a lunatic. She’s petty and vindictive and entitled. She’s a washed-up old hag. She’s “everybody’s first wife standing outside probate court.” She’s a “scolding mother.” She’s shrill… shrill… shrill. She can’t take it when people are mean to her. She’s a “hellish housewife.” She’s Tanya Harding. She CAN’T be President, what with the mood swings and the menses. Any woman who votes for her is voting with her vagina, not her brain. Women only like Hillary because she’s a fellow Vagina-American. And because they vote with their feelings. Frankly, anyone who still thinks we need “feminine role models” should get over it and move on, already. Oh, and men who support her are castratos in the eunuch chorus. You shouldn’t make her President because she wants it too much. She’s totally just banking on support from ugly old feminists. And she looooves to “play the victim.” She cackles! And cackles. And cackles. It’s like she’s a witch or something! She’s definitely “witchy.” And now you can buy her cackle as your ring tone. Her voice, too, is “grating”–like “fingernails on a blackboard” to “some men.” She’s hiding behind her gender. She isn’t a “convincing mom” because she’s too strident. She never did anything on her own. Her husband keeps her on a leash. She hates men. Her campaign is a “catfight.” She makes people want to kill themselves, is like a “domineering mother,” and is cold. And OMG she has boobies! All of which are reasons to hate her. (And boy, could I go on.)

Oh, and if you even mention any of this, you’re either silly or a bad person.

Actually, none of that would probably help Tree Sloth Rick. I suspect he’s like the Obamabots who read all that stuff and still clog up my moderation queue with inane comments about how sexism doesn’t exist, how there hasn’t been any misogyny in this campaign, etc., etc.. No idea what we’re talking about. Hubble Telescope. Mysterious smudges of light.

A MESSAGE FROM "CLINTON SUPPORTERS COUNT TOO"

Your responses are pouring in and have filled our inboxes in all states. We are moving rapidly and will have a website up soon, and are trying to respond to your emails as quickly as possible. Please pass this information on to everyone you can.

Here's what we need to do.

Make calls to OR and KY. We will have another stunning victory in KY and close the gap in OR. We believe the opposition will announce that he has won the nomination on May 20th after the polls close. It will not be believable when Hillary is announcing a HUGE VICTORY IN KY.

Organize a demonstration in front of your local NBC affiliate on election night, May 20th, starting at 6:30pm, until, preferably, the close of the 11:00 news. If you do not live close to your NBC affiliate, DO NOT WATCH IT. MAKE THEIR RATINGS PLUMMET.

This must be done nationwide so that our numbers and strength are visible. We have announced this boycott of NBC at our press conference. Do this to show the strength of Hillary Supporters to defeat this less-qualified candidate that has been blatantly aided with biased reporting by much of the media, and protest the sexist behavior and disgraceful comments from NBC anchors.

Make you own signs, for Hillary or against any of these offenses. Use your imagination. But most of all, JUST DO IT. YOU BEING THERE WILL MAKE THE STATEMENT THAT WOMEN ALL OVER AMERICA, ARE MAD AS HECK AND AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE.

Lastly, for this email anyway….. THIS IS NOT OVER…DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT IS AND DON'T LET YOURSELF THINK IT IS. IT IS NOT OVER.

This is only one part of the Road to the White House and the candidates are statistically neck to neck. The next step is the Resolution of FL and MI and we will demonstrate in Washington on May 31st when the Rules Committee meets.

Save the date. …more later. Each time we enter a new phase we will determine the most effective strategy and communicate it to you. Your part is to help make it happen throughout OH, MI, PA and FL, the critical states where we have the advantage.

THIS IS OUR MOMENT. HILLARY IS OUR CANDIDATE. WE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE HISTORY. LET'S USE IT!

WV to DNC - NObama

Can you hear us now? Count the votes already cast for Hillary in Florida and Michigan. Stop with the misogyny already and nominate the strongest and best candidate to go against McCain.

Today I have heard several radio commentators/hosts remark on how tired Obama is getting, of course, being sympathetic [it's all her fault it's gone on so long], but I wonder.

One even mentioned BO saying he'd been in 57 states and then, repeating 57 states again. Now that's tired! And there is that habit he has of running home to rest even before the ballots are counted in states he lost.

Why is this seemingly strong, young male exhausted? Does it indicate a latent health problem? Stress may be making him tired but think of the stress in the Oval office or facing up to McCain in debates or enduring the firestorm of negativity from the right.

On the other hand, there's the Energizer bunny in a pants suit, a good 10 years his senior, looking and acting like the first day of the campaign. This is an amazing feat as she has been running with the mean-stream media, AARadio, poisoned blogs and the DNC on her back throughout.

Not a peep from the cables about BO’s seemingly weak constitution but just wait if he officially wins the primary and has old guy McCain dancing circles around him.

Traditional core Democrats have been re-designated by Obomites. The Dnc’s Donna Brazile has delineated the new Obama Party as being AA’s, younger, urbane, suburban and upscale, “… and we don’t have to just rely on white blue-collar voters and Hispanics” [incidentally these are Hillary’s base].

That means down with Bubba, women, older, blue collar and all minorities other than AA’s. The racial division was planned and executed by the Obama campaign from the git-go.

Race Man by Sean Wilentz
How Barack Obama played the race card and blamed Hillary Clinton.
Post Date Wednesday, February 27, 2008

“To a large degree, the campaign's strategists turned the primary and caucus race to their advantage when they deliberately, falsely, and successfully portrayed Clinton and her campaign as unscrupulous race-baiters--a campaign-within-the-campaign in which the worked-up flap over the Somali costume photograph is but the latest episode. While promoting Obama as a "post-racial" figure, his campaign has purposefully polluted the contest with a new strain of what historically has been the most toxic poison in American politics. More than any other maneuver, this one has brought Clinton into disrepute with important portions of the Democratic Party. ”

http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=aa0cd21b-0ff2-4329-88a1-69c6c268b304

Who supports Senator Clinton? “Some 60 percent of white women support Hillary. Asian and Hispanic women support her. Hillary also pulls in the most Catholic voters, Hispanic voters and blue-collar workers both male and female, and seniors.”

These people are dependable voters.

TRUTH TO POWER

When asked by another audience member how he would respond to the claim that MSNBC officially supports BO, Matthews responded, “Well, it’s not official.” However the channel is now called MSNBO.

No surprise here. It has been violently dissing HRC and forgiving BO from the git-go. It, along with others, has soft-pedaled the Rev Wright story or barely mentioned it. All of their commentators are in the tank for BO and know that if they deviate from orders, they are out.

But there were some rays of light over in CNN. During the election coverage on NC and IN, the corporate CNN media moguls got a can of whipass truth from a couple of rams. Like MSNBO, the political “experts” are pimping for BO.

As all these pontifical pundits were waiting for the returns on Indiana, Lanny Davis spoke truth to the powerful corporate media. He was so strong and truthful that the moderator continually cut him off and allowed the CNN liar’s club to distort what he said.

Lanny Davis put it all out there on the line, telling the anti-Hillary CNN gigglers and media whores the truth about Florida and Michigan. That is, Chair Howard Dean left it up to the candidates as to whether they wanted a revote. HRC said yes; BO said no.

What a hue and cry arose from the brainwashed faithful. All the trained sheep shouted out that it was wrong to blame BO for this because it was Dean that put the axe to a revote. This is called lying.

Of course they did because this lie is what they had been reporting – if it’s on the script in front of them, it’s to be believed. God forbid any one of those so-called journalists would check out the facts or even entertain the idea that they might be wrong.

And what a thrill to hear the usual mild mannered, Paul Begala, take on Donna Brazile as the entire panel rushed in to turn him off and shut him up. Part of the transcript is copied below with an URL for the rest of it. Remember, he’s the guy BO tried to get CNN to fire.

BRAZILE: Well, Lou, I have worked on a lot of Democratic campaigns, and I respect Paul. But, Paul, you’re looking at the old coalition. A new Democratic coalition is younger. It is more urban, as well as suburban, and we don’t have to just rely on white blue-collar voters and Hispanics. We need to look at the Democratic Party, expand the party, expand the base and not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

BEGALA: When people say things — I love Donna and we go back 22 years. We’ve never been on different sides of an argument in our entire lives. But if her point is that there’s a new Democratic Party that somehow doesn’t need or want white working-class people and Latinos, well count me out.

BRAZILE: Paul, baby, I did not say that.

BEGALA: We cannot win with egg heads. Let me finish my point. We cannot win with egg heads and African-Americans. OK, that is the Dukakis Coalition, which carried ten states and gave us four years of the first George Bush.

http://thepage.time.com/transcript-from-cnns-election-center/

This is so important as it echoes what many Democratic Blogs are saying, that is the ones that are not dedicated to BO. He, his campaign and supporters are dividing the Democrats. Many openly declare they will not vote for BO if he is the candidate or will write in another. They say, “the Democratic Party is leaving them.

The biggest fallacy is reporting that HRC’s supporters are racists. That has made them angrier because the truth is that they just do not like or trust BO. He has no experience or substance – just a flash-bang in the pan.

And the most astute and honest pundits [few and far between as they are] do believe BO will probably win the Dem nomination but that HRC would win the election and he would lose it.

HIT ORDERED ON HILLARY

Many of you have commented on how violent the bloggers for BO have become. Also many now see how the mean-stream media [msm] and so-called Liberal Talk, Air America Radio are in collusion.

When AAR began, it criticized the msm for its myopic, one sided presentation of the news but now they are joined at the hip, with “stars” of both being exchanged to join the celestial chorus for the Precious one, their Messiah, BO.

So anti-Hillary comments are now de rigor on AAR as the various hosts call on her to quit for the good of the party. They are backing up in spirit and fact MSNBC’s Keith Oldermann’s calling for a hit on Senator Hillary Clinton. Yes indeed – birds of a feather flock together, you are known for the company you keep.

Yes, we heard KO’s lame-ass apology, delivered with giggles barely expressed. His body language gave him away with a fake apology just as it did when he said in an angry, punishing tone that most women have heard and cringe at: “Some sort of supercharged super delegate should take her into a room and only he comes out".

Hardly a peep about this from the msm but it was all over the blogs and even in blogs carried by Hillary-hating HuffPost. But just imagine what would have happened if a media personality/news reporter had said: “Some sort of supercharged super delegate should take him and a rope to that big tree over there and only the super delegate comes back.”

Not to be outdone in proposing violence toward HRC, CNN’s Jack Cafferty said, “Clinton wants to debate Obama in both states, as a means of picking up votes in a race that he currently leads overall. She says that she will debate him any place at any time, adding that it could even be done on the back of a flat-bed truck. He would probably prefer to run over her with a flat-bed truck at this point.”
http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/28/should-obama-have-accepted-another-debate/

Indeed it is open season on women, even one that is a United States Senator. But any threat against any black gets the whole media upset as they rail around trying to find a Clinton surrogate donkey to pin the tail of racism on.

Did the Rev. have the Wright stuff and is he helping BO? We noticed that with all his “different, not deficient” examples, he never mentioned how men have always, and still do, consider women deficient thus the reason for their claim of superiority.

There is no doubt that Rev. Wright supports the age old male agenda as to what he thinks women are deficient in - external genitalia. Did you notice his posturing and body movement? The kind we’ve all seen exhibited by black males strutting about, disdainful of all others and full of themselves? Did you note his scorn, his arrogance?

Like all the other misogynists, the Rev intentionally left out women when he made his different but not deficient examples, thus slamming not only Hillary but also all women of all color, race, religion, creed. And this is the person BO spent 20 years learning from.

Now BO has “thrown Rev. Wright under the bus”, according to several newscasters. Still, we wonder if he threw his grandmother along with him. This road kill sounds more like political expediency. Just a few weeks ago in a speech on race he said, ”I could no more disown him [Wright] than I could my white grandmother.” Still, we have more of an idea of the person BO is and what he stands for today, next week or next month.

If you’ve been thinking things are getting better for women and have not noticed that women are still paid only 77cents on the dollar, you might check out some local sights. Perhaps you might note the significance of those ornamental bull testicles hanging on the boyz pickup trucks. Does that tell you anything? Or you could turn up the sound and click on:
