BLIND TO WRITINGS ON THE WALL

It would be a really big joke if it wasn’t so darn serious. The Democrats/Progressives are mostly engaged in convincing themselves that they are going to win big in November, take the Congress and investigate Bush and other Republicans right out of office.

They are ROFLTAO at all the scandals and taking great delight in every word or picture that denigrates Bush or any member of his administration. Schadenfreude rules!

They are having so much fun that they are not paying attention to history – history they have been living for the past six years. Like children they have forgotten that those who ignore the lessons of the past are destined to repeat them.

Surely we should remember how Bush lied us into a preemptive war with Iraq and selectively used intelligence to boost his desire to invade that country.

Surely now that he is making the same sort of case against Iran, we should see the similarities. The media talking heads should be on this like flies on manure, checking out every claim Bush says come from the intelligence services.

And where are the Democratic Congressional members who cried loudly that Bush fudged the facts when asking for a vote to go to war? Instead all we hear is our Reps once again backing Bush without question and agreeing that Iran is a danger, even though many experts say it will be years before they can be a nuclear threat.

Meanwhile, Bush is taunting and disrespecting the leaders of Iran just as he did with Saddam Hussein, trying to provoke them into making threats or moves that will justify his ordering a bombing of their country.

Common courtesy would dictated that Bush at the very least, reply politely to the letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Instead he and Condi have turned up their noses and turned their backs on civility.

He’ll attack Iran, of course, on the pretext that this country is in grave danger of attack from weapons of mass destruction. And if one is still unconvinced of his motives, look at who he is putting in as head of a civilian agency, the CIA; a general of the Air Force.

Now all intelligence will be under Rummy’s control and by extension, Cheney’s and Bush’s. Again the people’s representatives will be made impotent.

How soon again will we hear the words, “Well, I did vote for the war but then I voted against it”? Back then, most of Congress just took Bush and Rummy and the rest at their word but they should be smarter now.

Will we let Bush continue with his endless wars while our country suffers? Remember that it is not a sure thing that Democrats will win a majority in November or the Presidency in ’08. Long before that, Cheney will resign and Bush will put John McCain in as VP to continue his endless wars.

Following Bush and the Religious Rychus’s God has not gotten us very far. In Viet Nam, Buddha defeated us and in Iraq, Mohammed is kicking our butts.

RED HOT COLBERT

Telling the truth to power – what a novel concept!

“Over the top”, cried Fox News, and the rest of the scared rabbit traditional Newsies tucked their tails between their legs and acted shocked.

But the blogs and many Internet sites gleefully printed and presented Colbert’s “Heil to the Chief” and it was refreshing.

While the chock full of themselves media mavens were sputtering their righteous indignation, none seemed to remember how they laughed and clapped a few years back when a 21 carat jerk named Don Imus, in a similar situation, grossly attacked the President and First Lady on a personal subject.

Nor did they mention how they had piled on to his attack forever after on that same personal subject; or how Imus made that speech an often used insert on his daily show whenever he needed to feel important.

Colbert didn’t stoop to the personal so Bush was getting the Colbert- wood put to him for his crimes against the Country and the Constitution. And that angered the puffed-up denizens of the media world even more. They were sulking because their lousy job of reporting over the last four years was being exposed to the public.

Their reporting of the event was typical. They raved about Bush’s skit with his look alike and ignored the genius of Colbert. Somehow they have the idea that if they do not report something it doesn’t happen.

But they are in for a surprise. Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, the rising tide of the Internet is going to sink those media sycophants. An informed and angry electorate will more and more rely on other sources for its news.

For the blogs and Progressive radio are telling Americans about several things that Bush has done and the media has not reported. High among his crimes is his long time practice of signing a bill passed by Congress and then issuing a signing statement that said in effect – “this does not apply to me, I am above these laws.”

Examples of the president's signing statements
Boston Globe, United States - Apr 30, 2006
Since taking office in 2001, President Bush has issued signing statements on more than 750 new laws, declaring that he has the power to set aside the laws when ...

If that doesn’t cause us to shudder, all the indications seem to be pointing to his determination to start another war, this time with Iran. The media isn’t fighting him or exposing him on this.

Adding to our pain are the Democrats in Congress who were silent so long on Iraq and are hiding in the bull rushes, hoping we won’t notice.

R U A 77 PERCENTER?

Last Tuesday, April 26, was a special day for women. However, it does not bring great joy for progress in equality. Rather it designates how far into 2006 an average woman must work to equal what a man earned in 2005.

For about a decade women have earned only 77 cents for every dollar paid to men. It has been worse. The Sixties found them earning only 59 cents for every dollar paid to men. It was believed that they would catch up as more women entered the work force.

Evelyn Murphy, economist and former lite gov of Massachusetts has authored a book, Getting Even: Why Women Don’t Get Paid Like Men – and What to do About it.

Over the years reasons given for women being paid less, she reveals, are: they are not as educated; they dropped out of workforce when they had children; they didn’t need the money since they were married.

She claims the reasons are facetious. The difference in pay is not because women take time off to have and raise children because the wage gap figure measures only those women who work full time for a year.

Murphy thinks the argument that women earn less is because they take time off to start a family is “an incredibly lame argument”.

So is the idea that women are less educated or less trained since now there are training facilities that encourage women to participate.

Murphy argues that government cannot help. “We passed the laws that make discrimination illegal. I’ve realized that CEO’s have the power to eliminate this problem.”

She thinks they and other organizations/businesses need to check their payrolls for systematic underpayment of women in every job category.

Women must also get involved. One way they can check on where their salaries stand is to go to Murphy’s website and use the wage-gap calculator to find if there are differences in their area between what they and men are getting for doing the same job:
http://www.wageproject.org

And women also must take a good look at themselves. Are they dressing for “fashion” [that is to please men] or for their profession and the situation they are working in?

Nearly every day on any news program, one can see a group of workers coming down the steps of their building. Men, wearing comfortable flat shoes, step confidently down to the sidewalk.

But always there is that one woman [or sometimes more than one] who goes to the side and clings to the railing as she tries to maintain balance in heels that one day will injure or even kill her. But, they will argue, heels make their legs look attractive.

Perhaps it is time women showed competency and confidence in the workplace and limit their sexy attire to bars, church functions and social occasions. Certainly so if they want to be taken seriously as professionals and paid as professionals.

I’M THE GREAT DECIDER

Oh yay-yus, I’m the great Decider [ye haw]
Deciding for earthlings en masse [ye haw]
I feed their fears and delight in their tears,
They trust me and I kick their ass.
-- with apologies to The Platters/Freddie Mercury

Gloryoski! The once and future king has spoken. OK Republicans, “Can you hear him now?” He came into office announcing that he was the Great Uniter and you know what happened then.

Is this your leader that you revere and admire? Do you hold your country in such low esteem that you would continue to let this person rule over it while ignoring Congress, The Constitution and us lesser critters.

April 26th will mark the day where Bush has 1000 days left in office. 1000 days to be the great decider. 1000 days to decide what country he will use our children’s lives to invade next.

Actually, he has decided that we won’t even have time to think about such things because we will be kept busy with the coming election and with floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and the rising cost of gas.

Oh yay-yus, I’m the great decider [ye haw]
Deciding what science can be [ye haw]
What supports my claims and serves my aims
Is all I’ll allow you to see.
- ibid

Now we are faced with another fake-out as spring cleaning at the White House proceeds Bush style. Old faces in the other slots as cronies move in or up. But the change will only be cosmetic; the punishing, destructive policies will continue.

No one should be complacent or pleased at what they call the demotion of Karl Rove. It just appears to take him out of government, thus making him less of a target for the Special Council or any future investigations.

Oh yay-yus, I’m the great decider [ye haw]
I decide for you what is best [ye haw]
My long reign of error begat oodles of terror
My incompetence meets every test.
- ibid

I hear the voices coming from God
Giving arrogant ME, absolute power over air, land
and sea.
- ibid

YEE HAW!

LAUGHING LAST

Ever since Bush started running for president the partisans on the left have mocked and made fun of him as malaprops spring from his lips like thorns on roses. The late night humor mills turned out a barrage of material sure to bring laughter and derision.

Cartoonists had a field day. One showed an unattractive facsimile of Bush with the caption, “Somewhere a village is missing its idiot”. He really did do such dumb things and mangled the English language so badly that nearly everyone laughed – but not everyone laughed at him; many laughed with him.

The scared little bunny look, when he was told America was under attack and then chose to finish the goat story was a classic. Another was landing on a carrier deck supporting a pelvic package that was obviously fudged up. The only question was whose sox were used and how many.

It proved to be a minor distraction that was hooted at by the left but the right took the media soaring to the heights with the proclamation that the war in Iraq was over. The point missed was that he never packed the package again and Carl had his game plan well in hand. Indulge the left with humor and keep the media on the “right” message.

Whether it was a formal or informal meeting with the White House Press Corps, jokes were the soup de jour. Bush used them to dodge questions and keep the reporters thinking they were really getting answers instead of smoke blown up their collective asses [ Helen Thomas being one of the exceptions – she always knew shit from Shineola].

He set them up from the beginning with nicknames and playing good-‘ol-boy dumb. Talk about low expectations! Whatever anything bad happened, one could be sure the media would blame it on The Dick or Rummy. W. was just such a nice guy to have a beer with.

And so it went for his years in the White House where the often occurring Bush faux pas were collected, put on web sites and circulated amid frantic laughter. It buoyed the spirits of all who could not imagine that anyone would vote him back for a second term.

But vote him back they did even with a disastrous war, scandals, mistakes and repeated examples of incompetence. Through it all, Bush maintained that he was committed to continuing along the same, mistaken path and, until very recently, pulled an admiring media along it with him as the left fumed and the Press Corps laughed.

Now with his poll numbers in the toilet and a not so compliant media, Rove sends Bush out to fool the people once again, going from town to town, ostensibly taking the “hard” questions from his “nastiest” critics.

And, of course, the left is laughing its ass off at his antics. Air America plays his show over and over to blast him. But to the uncommitted voter and to his base he is making points. They feel he is being beaten up by bullies unfairly but is handling it like a prince. He makes jokes; he fractures his sentences and gives uninformative answers, all the time playing the questioners like a pro.

He interrupts with a quip to knock them off their question. He makes a big deal of telling the crowd to “hear the man out” thus showing his magnanimity and fairness. He keeps the audience watching his act but unaware of his real purpose.

Although a majority of Americans give Bush low polls on most issues, the same majority do NOT want him impeached or censored. This means he and the GOP may have the last laugh. Bush gets away Scot-free because he plays the idiot card so convincingly that the left has bought into it as reality. Danger, danger, Will Robinson, complacency is the hob goblin of disaster.

NATIVE AMERICAN WISDOM

Talk about American values and human rights and what would Jesus do? –check out President Cecilia Fire Thunder of the Oglala Sioux Tribe in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation located in the state of South Dakota.
http://www.indiancountry.com/content.cfm?id=1096409864

S.D. House Bill 1215, now in the legislature, will outlaw all abortions unless the woman will die if she does not have it. In other words, to prove you must have an abortion, you must die.

If you are raped, or if there are physical/health problems with you or development problems with the fetus, or if you are unable to support or care for a child, fergetaboutit! – No other reason except death is acceptable.

Former nurse and healthcare giver, Fire Thunder, is spitting in the face of a state body made up mostly of white males who “would make such a stupid law against women. I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”

Sadly, other women in N.D. who are not Indian, will not be allowed by the state officials to come to the reservation to seek the treatment they are denied by their government officials.

Would that every state in this land had a “Woman’s World” where the idiotic, selfserving, punitive laws made by political males and their fembots could be declared off limits, and a woman in charge with the courage and good sense of Cecilia.

http://www.thelizlibrary.org/liz/004.htm

"The best solution to abortion is to make sure that women have access to contraceptives, have access to family planning options, and that information needs to be out there at all times where all women of childbearing age have that information and use it."

She continues: "We just want to make sure that something is done for women who make that decision. All we can do is provide that to them, no questions asked. It's their choice. It's between her and God and that unborn baby. And I honor that."

And we at GenderGappers honor her and hope she becomes an example to the women of her state and the rest of this country. This important health care for women can be practiced at Pine Ridge because it is under federal jurisdiction, not state.

Pine Ridge is still protected by Roe v. Wade – at least until the new Bush/Bible belters Court drown it in the waters of political expediency.

Want a preview of what it may be like in your state when all abortion is criminal? Check out the upcoming article in the New York Times Magazine by Jack Hitt
the criminalization of abortion in El Salvador.

LET THEM EAT BULLETS

Now there’s a big ruckus about illegal aliens crossing our Southern border. It is so silly because there is a completely logical thing to do. And it should be done before Congress, pretending it still has a function, confuses the situation even more.

It’s all so simple. Arrest all illegal aliens and put them into army units. After a brief training period, send them to Iraq. This will free all the real American boys and girls to come back to their country and apply for all the jobs formerly held by the illegals.

Of course this would mean American officers would have to lead these illegals. Simple answer to that too. Draft all those dead beats sucking on the Social Security teats, who are just taking up room and depleting our resources.

Since these elders wouldn’t move very fast it would mean an initial outlay for more body bags but this would be more than made up for by the money saved in Medicaid. With the baby boomer generation coming into the SS program there would be an ample supply of officer material.

If more aliens continue to cross into this country, form up another several units to go to Afghanistan and hunt for bin Laden in the tunnels. Everyone knows how much the aliens love tunnels so it would be a natural job for them and one they would enjoy doing.

There would be many casualties suffered among these people, of course. But if they choose to continue to cross the border then they are just asking for it. And as an added bonus, the casualties would cut down on recidivism.

In addition, we have to plan for the preemptive wars to come as a dictator is never satisfied unless he is making war on another country and stealing the assets of those people. There’s Iran and North Korea and Syria for starters, evil doers all.

Too harsh, you say? Not the American way, you protest? We beg to differ. It is truly in the spirit of this country to penalize the poor and disadvantaged, both at home and abroad. Just look at the shock and awe damaged done to Iraq. Quite a body count there even if you just count those who were not pulverized.

Despite the expressed horror over Abu Ghrieb and the photos of prisoner torture in US run penal camps, the torture is still going on with the blessings of the Attorney General. Hey, who cares, really? If protests get too loud we just send the bad guys to other countries that will do the torturing for us.

And talk about suffering! Children are dying in Iraq, which used to have one of the best health care systems in the region. Our preemptive invasion took care of that, damaging their health care system to such an extent that it cannot respond to Iraqi basic health needs.

One just has to note the way the Gulf Coast people flooded out by Katrina were left for days in such horrible conditions that many died to see how the dictatorship works at home too. Meanwhile more laws are made all the time to hurt the least advantaged and there is nothing left of the former Democracy to protect them.

Yes, we used to have values and we used to have concern for our disadvantaged, elders and children. Americans had this back when we were a Democracy. Now that we’ve become a Dictatorship, we have buried those values and opted for expediency.

So what if there are many hungry people in South America who come here for jobs so they can feed their families? To paraphrase Marie Antoinette, if the poor have no bread, let them eat bullets.

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MACHO

If you have ever watched “The Running Man” movie you probably found the society that made up the cheering crowds ominously familiar. They are us. With few exceptions we people in the affluent Western Democracies have nearly everything including home and food and toys.

We have a land that still has much to give us even though we have continued to rape it throughout the many years we have lived upon it. True, there are those that work hard to replenish what we have stolen but most do not.

Nearly oblivious of the horrors that many other societies endure, we assuage our conscious concerning other by throwing money at them. We call upon our various
Religious organizations to fill in for us while we fight our bulging waistlines.

The mindless cheering crowds in the film remind us of the many Americans who could not bother to vote in the last election and those who voted for a person who has and is bringing never ending war to the world.

They are willing to sacrifice a child or two as long as they have someone in the White House that will appoint Supreme Court justices who will deny women the right of reproductive freedom and further marginalize gays to deprive them of equal rights.

They are conditioned to cheer the Bush administration and ignore his lies, his mismanagement and his desecration of the Constitution. There is just something about a macho state hero that really turns them on.

It’s a weakness really that so many Americans and others have such an all consuming desire to be seen as bettering/overcoming other nations. “We are the greatest, we are the winners, you are the shmooks. Ya-Hoo!”

If that sounds like a high school sports match, you got it. Maturation of brain cells and maturity of thought has not yet arrived for those who continue to support the worst of our country.

As long as macho is appealing, they will never open their minds to anything more. Virtue might have its own reward but feeling superior to others allows them to have their cake and gag on it too.

How carefully they balance their professed religiosity against allowing their government to torture other human beings under the guise that it is “best for the country” and “necessary to fight terrorists.”

It is no wonder that the TV show, “24”, is so popular. Torture there is always the right thing to do and it always saves the country from disaster. As long as the good guys win, God and religion are conveniently forgotten.

Commenting on "Manliness”, the title of a new book by Harvey C. Mansfield, a conservative professor of government at Harvard University, Ruth Marcus wrote in part:
I have a new theory about what's behind everything that's wrong with the Bush administration: manliness. …
…He, Mansfield writes that he wants to "convince skeptical readers -- above all, educated women" -- that "irrational manliness deserves to be endorsed by reason." Sorry, professor: You lose. What this country could use is a little less manliness -- and a little more of what you would describe as womanly qualities: restraint, introspection, a desire for consensus, maybe even a touch of self-doubt. -- Man Overboard by Ruth Marcus Tuesday, March 21, 2006; A17 Washington Post

CHILE SHAMES US

As far as women in high government positions are concerned, America is a 4th World country. While Chile inaugurated its first woman president, the Democrats meet to find some way to avoid nominating one.

Using the time tested gender demeaning language and flexing the muscles that determine power and courage as masculine prerogatives, the DNC vultures flock together with the woman haters in blogs and lists [under the direction of Karl Rove] to defeat Senator Clinton if she runs in 2008.

Our male dominated society has not changed its attitude toward women, albeit subtly masked in many respects, from what it was in Roman time.

"If we could survive without a wife, citizens of Rome, all of us would
do without that nuisance." So proclaimed the Roman general, statesman,
and censor Quintus Caecilius Metellus Macedonicus, in 131 B.C. Still,
he went on to plead, falling birthrates required that Roman men
fulfill their duty to reproduce, no matter how irritating Roman women
might have become. "Since nature has so decreed that we cannot manage
comfortably with them, nor live in any way without them, we must plan
for our lasting preservation rather than for our temporary pleasure."
-The Return of Patriarchy by Phillip Longman

But there is a bright spot in South America where recently elected President

Michalle Bacholet has formed a cabinet of 10 women and 10 men. Imagine that kind of gender parity in this country!?! Especially with the Dem jocks lining up with the Repub jocks to defeat Senator Clinton.

Difficult isn’t it when we read the lists and blogs, where determined grass roots denizens flit from one Dem possible candidate for president to another, depending on how much they agreed with them on any particular day or hour.

There one really sees the anti-woman candidate as comment after comment declares that they have nothing against a woman president, but… and then they proceed to proclaim that Senator Clinton cannot possibly win. AND THE REASONS THEY GIVE COME FROM THE FRANTIC PEN OF KARL ROVE.

No agenda, no plan, no candidate follows the Republican Party line better than those on various Dem- advocate lists unless it is the nameless DC politicos who meet secretly in groups and plot to run someone who can beat Hillary.

We find it deplorable that no one seems to note how well prepared for the job Senator Clinton is. They just see the absence of pelvic brains. If they could just lift their heads above the gender thing, they would see as we do that they have already a ticket that the Repugs cannot beat--

Presidential Candidate, Senator Clinton and VP Candidate, Senator Barack Obama. These two are a veritable brain trust, a treasure trove of experience and Liberalism and between them they represent the majority of Democratic base and a giant step out of the 17th Century.

It’s time America entered the 21st Century and utilized the vast abilities of women who can not only govern but can anticipate the consequences of their actions - Women who do not have to wage war to counteract their impotence.

6 AND 16

Just suppose that you had caused an accident with your car. When the police came to investigate, you assured them that you would handle the investigation. You would appoint a panel to investigate and provide oversight.

Well sure, they might not take you directly to the booby hatch but they might suggest to the judge that you get counseling. Think the whole idea is silly? Well think again. We the people are the basis of our democracy. We count. We make the rules. No one, even the president is above the law. BALONY!!!

There were many that thought the revelations about the fiasco FEMA perpetrated on the hurricane victims of Katrina would lead the media to investigate how the Bush administration broke laws. And for a short while it did.

The disturbing news from Iraq and the lies and complicity of the Bush regime have been reported as well as the laws they broke and are still breaking. The secret deal to sell our ports to the UAE which broke our laws got media attention and exposure.

There were plenty of hours and articles on the illegal wire tapping of Americans with tons of evidence that Bush had ignored the Constitution and knowingly and arrogantly broken our laws.

The media laughed up a storm about the Vice P. Cheney’s shooting of a campaign contributor but had hardly a word to say about how the police and other authorities failed to conduct any kind of meaningful investigation.

There are so many examples where Bush has fractured the laws and especially the Constitution and the media reported but they cannot be contained in the space allowed here. The horror is, “What is next?”

In all cases, after telling the story and noting the illegalities, the media then proceeded to turn each story into the White House spin. This meant that we are supposed to think that everything is OK and we should have not a worry in the world.

For example, CNN sent Wolf to Dubai to interview the nice guys that now own our ports. Just like all the other cases of law breaking by Bush, the media keeps getting softer and softer until finally it parrots the Bush spin.

Now we hear that Dubai is pulling out of the “deal” and turn over the ports to an American “entity”. Even those who don’t wear tin foil hats wonder if this is a compromise or an end run.

In Katrina and the wiretapping, there are investigations going on but they are not bi-partisan, they are being done by the Bushies and the Republican majorities in Congress.

So you, the boss by virtue of being a US citizen, are the only entity that is not allowed to conduct investigations into your wrongdoing. Your government is doing just as it pleases and the media is either scared off or complicit.

Since the media is now wholly owned by corporate interests, it’s not hard to think that it is complicit. Government and media have usurped the Constitution and democracy while you and I are getting our collective asses kicked.

Yeah, we got blogs all over the place pouring forth the crimes of this administration and the media. We got foreign newspapers giving us evidence of Bush’s illegal acts. We got everything except equality under the law and a Congressional majority.

And we won’t ever have that until we get a Congress with oversight. With Republicans in the majority there is no check on Bush. They will not impeach him. The only recourse is 6 and 16. Only six Senate seats and 16 House seats would have to change hands to give Dems control of Congress in November.

DUBAI OR NOT DUBAI

Well here we are back to ports and shipping with a country up in arms against the flaunting of power by King George IV. Only this time, the flaunter only THINKS he is king. The people are reminding him that he is NOT.

Back then it was tea that was thrown off ships. The colonists were pissed because King George III insisted on putting a whopping big tax on the stuff. Throwing the tea overboard was their way of saying, “Up yours, King G.”

Now the people in the country who think the government belongs to them and their elected representatives are very near the point of throwing the pretend king Bush overboard – just as he has done with our ports and with them our security.

However one thinks about it, selling off our vital ports to a foreign NATION, any foreign nation, is not cool. What makes it worse is that it was all done in secret and Bush is unapologetic. As he has done in many other instances, he claims that he has the power and damn the Constitution.

He claims that it is HIS government, not ours. He does not accept oversight by Congress even though it is part of our Constitution. Remember all the talk about wiretapping our citizens? Congress and the people object; Bush just ignores them.

The most frightening thing about all of this is that we have no idea what else he has sold off of our country; or what other deals he has made with foreign countries; or what he has done right here to deprive the rights of Americans.

There are those, especially James Zogby [Arab American Institute], who want to make this all a racist thing. He claims that Americans refute this deal because it is with Arabs, and that Americans are prejudiced and that Arabs are fair game while other nationalities are not.

Mr Zogby and the others of this bent have conveniently forgotten the continuous assaults on the French and France by Americans. Were the “freedom fries” and freedom toast” happenings so long ago that their memories fail?

Besides, if there is nothing wrong with this deal why was the whole country including its elected representatives kept in the dark about it?

If there is a strong feeling that an Arab nation should not have control of our ports, lay the blame on the man who thinks he is king. Bush has harangued the American public and the world about 9/11 and those who hi-jacked and crashed the planes. He has lost no opportunity to tell us that the terrorist threat is a serious one.

He strives constantly to raise the level of fear in this country and make everyone think they are about to be attacked by al Qaeda supporters. These are mainly Arab nations, right? And bin Laden, Bush’s own personal boogie-man, is Arabic.

Americans are finally awake and concerned about the safety of their ports and their nation; they are headed for the courts to stop this acquisition by the UAE. Can we hope this awakening is durable enough to say again “up yours, King G”?

SUPREME CRONYISM

Over the weekend, the time this most secrete and incompetent administration announces things they want to slip under the rug of our attention, Justice Alito hired 37-year-old Adam Ciongoli to be one of his law clerks.

“It might raise some eyebrows,'' said Todd Peppers, author of a forthcoming book on Supreme Court clerks called “Courtiers of the Marble Palace” and an assistant professor of political science at Roanoke College in Virginia. “I can think of no other example in the modern history of the court of someone with this type of experience coming on and being a law clerk.”

It is unusual: The vast majority of Supreme Court Clerks are recent law school graduates. Ciongoli is 37, a senior VP at Time Warner Inc. He was a former clerk for Alito before going to Justice where he advised Ashcroft on terrorism issue following 9/11 and, among other issues, worked on the detention of thousands of suspects, torture guidelines and the use of military tribunals.

His responsibilities as Alito’s law clerk would include helping Alito draft opinions and prepare for oral arguments. So there is the possibility that there would be issues come to him that he had worked on as an Ashcroft aide in the Justice Department.

For example, the arrest of U.S. citizen Jose Padilla and his subsequent detention as an "enemy combatant" took place while Ciongoli was on Ashcroft's staff. The Supreme Court is currently considering whether to hear Padilla's appeal.

Of course there are ethical strictures concerning the recusal of law clerks. Clerks should not participate in cases that they worked on in a previous legal position. But considering the track record of this administration, few people would believe that ethics would ever be a consideration.

Two of the five Alito law clerks have been well ingrained in religious dogma. Hannah Smith and Jay Jorgensen worked for Justice Clarence Thomas and then-Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, respectively. Benjamin Horwich and Alexander Volokh came from retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

The Bush culture of corruption is firmly entrenched and now reaches its tentacles into the Supreme Court. A Court now poised to deny equality under the law to women. A Court poised to make its judgments in favor of the Bush administration, corporations and against the ordinary individual, forcing us to endure their religious intrusions into our government and even into our health and medical services.

BITE ME

“How could you believe me when I said "I Love You
When you know I've been a liar all my life?
I've had that reputation since I was a youth --
You must have been insane to think I'd ever tell the truth.”
How Could You Believe Me -- Words & Music by Alan Jay Lerner & Burton Lane

Now Bush trots out a 5-year-old plot to blow up a West Coast bank building. He gets the name wrong, neglects to tell the state officials and expects us to swallow his story whole.

Well why not? Many Americans have been doing it since he first opened his mouth and spewed out Texas tough talk in place of intelligence. This kind of thing seems to delight a mentality that worshiped cowboy, John Wayne.

Yet time after time his words, despite his strong man swagger, have turned out to be PROVEN false. And time after time, with the help of a compliant media, the public forgets, forgives and becomes confused and frightened. Just watch them spin this fact with taxpayer money:

”The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) has discovered that the Bush Administration has spent more than $1.6 billion in tax payer dollars on PR and advertising in a two and a half year span.”.

The Lord of the Gun VP, on a hunt for defenseless little birds, shoots a lawyer full of birdshot without the proper permit for hunting either birds or lawyers and he acts as if nothing happened until his guys could clean up the crime scene.

Deception, lies, smoke and mirrors has been the hallmark of this administration since it began. Now that the wounds to the victim from the “friendly fire” have caused him to suffer a minor heart attack we’ll again see this administration’s weaseling at work.

But this time it may be a bit harder to force lies and deception onto a gullible public. This time, the media is really pissed off and when the media is hurt, they go after the ones who hurt them.

To the media, at this writing, the crime isn’t that a man was shot and has suffered a heart attack. It isn’t that Cheney did not have the proper hunting stamp to hunt quail. It isn’t that Cheney might have been drunk or was being entertained by a lobbyist.

What pissed off the media was that Cheney did not immediately notify THEM. He did not call and give kowtowing interviews to the press corps. The White House Press Corps especially is acting like a jilted lover and its Valentines Day to boot.

We can only hope it will drag its collective cranium out of its rectum and dig deeply into the very real travesties of justice perpetuated daily by the Bush administration. Its lies, its incompetence, its criminal acts and its secrecy have turned us from a nation of values to a nation of co-conspirators.

Co-conspirators turning a blind eye to the horrific deeds done in our name as time after time, the Bushies answer charges of their Constitutional destruction with a flip of the finger and the verbal metaphor, bite me.

And we huddle like babies in fear of an attack that was and is fabricated on and nourished by spin that our tax dollars paid for.

“How could you believe me when I said "I Love You"
When you know I've been a liar, a good for nothing liar,
All my good for noth - in' life?” ibid

TRUTH IS ON THE MARCH

Oh, darn! The Republicans are unhappy, angry and terribly upset again. They just cannot get used to a funeral being a celebration of life. They want dirges and uncontrolled weeping but what Democrats give them is joy, laughter and some goddamn straight truth. And, if the celebrated person was political, there will be politics spoken there.

Not to long ago it was the Celebration of the Life of Senator Paul and Sheila Wellstone that upset them. As in all things the Republicans seem to think that they are the arbiters of what is right and proper. Well so be it, then Democrats should be the arbiters of what is left and truthful.

And that is what came through in spades at the Celebration of the Life of Coretta Scott King. The most glorious thing about it was that Bush was right there to hear it. It must have been a bit rough on him to hear unvarnished truth because he isn’t used to hearing it.

After all, he has spent most of his term in office listening only to sycophants in a controlled setting. Formerly, people who attended his speeches were thoroughly vetted to make sure that nothing might be said that would embarrass Bush or allude to the truth.

That wasn’t the case on Tuesday where the biggest applause was given to President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton. This must have irked Bush at least as much as it irked Chris Matthews who tried mightily to get his panels to condemn the Clintons.

But all he got was the pure rage of the lesser evil twin of Ann Coulter, Kate O’Beirne, who was appalled at ALLthe goings on at a funeral and the lack of respect shown the president. [Actually plenty of respect was afforded all of the former Presidents!]

What Bush heard for the first time was the VOICE OF THE PEOPLE. For the first time he heard what ordinary people thought about his horrible war and his criminal mishandling of Katrina and the victims of that and other hurricanes.

One can only hope that now more people will speak up and lift up a cacophony of protest to a so far deaf, dumb and blind White House. Now is the time for the Democrat’s squeak to become a roar and the grass roots should lead the charge WITHOUT their usual hate slinging rhetoric toward members of their own Party.

And on the same day poor old McCain got his feelings hurt and was pissed off. Whining and crying like a grown up baby whose hormones had kicked in. Doing everything except stamping his feet, John Boy lashed out at Senator Barack Obama. Of course, Chris boy gave him a platform to do it with no rebuttal.

In one of his tirades, McCain noted that “an ethics reform plan he introduced with two Democrats, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, was evidence of his commitment to including "members of both parties."

Now is the time to notice and make public the fact that Joe and Ben are not Democrats, they are Republiwhores. And now is the time to tell John that he no longer has the high ground on truth. He can no longer excuse his hormonal outbursts by saying that he was “straight talking”.

He was and is a bully, who backed down and became a lap dog to Bush even after Bush tore him several new ones and dissed his family when they were both candidates for president. If this country is sick enough to make John boy a candidate, we are doomed. Liberals have just got to stop kissing this guy’s ass.

THE CURSE OF ALITO

This is a true story of what happened between a Neurologist and his Patient on January 24th of this year. The Senate Judiciary Committee had just approved Alito’s nomination by a 10 to 8 vote and the Neurologist had kept his Patient waiting over a half an hour because he wanted to watch it on TV.

But the Patient knew none of this when she was told by the receptionist that the doctor would see her now. This was a follow up visit. On the initial visit, the Patient had presented with dizzy spells which persisted following a short ataxia* attack.

The Neurologist had given her a short examination and had appointments made for her to receive an MRI, EEG, EP’s and Ultrasound tests. He told her there was nothing seriously wrong as it was a labyrinth problem that could be treated and that she would be back to work in no time.

This second visit was to hear the results and the diagnosis and the 78 year-old Patient brought a Friend along for support. The Neurologist sat behind his desk and handed a sheet of paper across to the Patient. He directed her attention to two check marked sentences.
#1. Small vessel ischemic* disease and age related cerebral atrophy.
#2. No evidence of a CP* angle mass or IAC* mass.

Following a comment and question from the Patient’s Friend, the Neurologist demanded the paper back and circled a line, and then he handed the paper back to the Patient. She read, “There is moderate small vessel ischemic disease present.”

The Patient tried for more information including the meaning of some terms on the paper and this obviously irritated the Neurologist who responded grudgingly, telling her that the good news was that there were no masses or lesions and she was not in danger of death from the small vessel disease.

Questions about how she might go about managing the dizziness brought the answer that it might go away in time. He told her to take an aspirin, walk 15 minutes a day, cut down on animal fat - all things the Patient had already told him she did. Actually she stressed that she walked for nearly 2 hours every morning before the dizziness took over and now used a treadmill in her home.

Now the Neurologist, plainly out of patience, got up and told her she would be fine and to see him again in July as he moved her toward the door. Once there he apologized for being late and said it was because he was watching the Senate Committee confirming Alito.

The Patient turned toward him and responded, “Now, I really am sick. He’s a menace to the country.” Immediately, the Neurologist shut the door and began a tirade, haranguing the Patient with what a wonderful, perfect man and judge Alito was.

He would not hear any rebuttal or argument although the Patient got in a word or two on Alito’s judicial record of always finding against the disadvantage and human rights and for corporations. “How can you say that”, the Neurologist blustered, “you are not a lawyer!” Seemingly unmindful of the fact that he was not one either.

“Because Alito’s rulings on cases are posted on the WEB”, she responded. “Any person can read for herself how he has consistently found for corporations and against women, old people, worker’s …

Waving that away and loudly drowning out the Patient, the Neurologist continued nearly non-stop saying that when “his personal friend”, Justice Scalia, came to Vermont, he got a standing ovation. He insisted that “this was because Scalia was a GOOD man, just as Alito is a GOOD man”.

The Patient was unable to make him hear that a captive audience will do that, which is why Bush has screened his audiences. http://www.vermontguardian.com/local/
102004/Scalia.shtml

The Neurologist bashed Senator Kennedy in the most damning terms along with others on the Senate Judiciary Committee. He said he should have talked with “Patrick” [Senator Leahy] for his stand on the vote. He said he knew him personally.

The Patient and her Friend had more than enough of this harassment and opened the door to get away from the non-stop bombast from a doctor that seemingly had no time to discuss the concerns of his patient but was determined to force his political views on her.

In the parking lot following this experience, the Patient asked her friend what she thought of it. Her Friend replied, “I heard and saw the absolute refusal by this man to consider for a fraction of a second that the opinion of a person who disagreed with him could possibly matter, could possible touch him in any way.

“Self-righteousness is the name of his game. He revealed himself to be a bully (he's gonna give Patrick - because of course they are on a first name basis- an earful). He's on cloud nine because his stars are aligned with people in positions of supreme power. And like those people he uses his power in an abusive way. This was amply demonstrated by the good doctor's treatment of you. The irony cannot be missed.”

Nor can the threat to everyone now that Alito is on the Supreme Court. The Patient will NOT go back to that doctor, not now, not in July and not ever, but which Doctor should she go to?

How can she know the breadth and depths of the Neurologist’s influence? Religion in politics is terrible but how does one confront religion in medicine? She experienced first hand a physician’s hatred of women, his distain for the elderly and those in the lower class.

Swiftboating Our Own

There are still three years to go but already some Democrats are forming a circular firing squad. Karl Rove must be laughing so hard his pants will never dry. Can Democrats ever learn to allow candidates the dignity of running for an office before trashing them?

Of course thinking Democrats are courteous and mindful of what they say about their own. They know that every single word that is negative toward another Democrat is savored by the Repugnuts to be used against them in campaigns.

Although there have been minor criticisms, we have noted that deliberate trashing of a possible presidential candidate has been minor - that is until lately. Now the forces behind the scenes that run the Democrat Party are setting the stage to once again “manage” the grass roots to slime a potential candidate they have chosen to defeat.

Senator Hillary Clinton has a huge popular majority over any other potential candidate and their agenda is to bring her down any way they can. And, it is also the agenda of the Republicans who fear that she can beat any candidate they offer.

These Dem leaders are the same ones that spun the grass roots candidate Howard Dean off mark and put Kerry in place [“Because lil’ children, Kerry can win and Dean cannot”]. Hiding in the murky mud, they will twist the tails of Liberals to make them do their dirty work, knowing how easily many of them can be incited to hate.

Right now we see a pattern forming and there is still three years to go. There may have been others but Cindy Sheehan was the first to catch our attention as she ignored the words and deeds of other Democrats to aim hateful, unproven and ugly charges against Senator Hillary Clinton.

Her remarks got more play in the media than any dozen Hollywood stars caught with their pants down, stoked on dope or fornicating with totem poles. And she is one who sincerely wants an end to the Repugnuts constant wars and killing and has strived and suffered mightily with great risk to inform others and bring the Bush regime down.

Next it was Arianna Huffington who smeared Senator Clinton in her blog, not just once but at every opportunity – again while totally ignoring or being just slightly critical of other Democrats who have been just as blameworthy as the Senator.

And most recently, Molly Ivins has joined in the vicious, nasty chorus of Swiftboating Senator Hillary Clinton, with her latest column. As much as we love and respect Molly, we think she has miss-stepped here, as she did when she early on humorously introduced us to “Shrub” as a likeable and harmless boob.

One can laud her/his choice without slime-ing another. There are better ways to denote one’s preference for president without singling out one candidate to trash and accuse of things that plenty of other Democratic politicians are just as guilty of.

In the short run these three women have given great glee to those Democrats full of hate that fear the specter of a woman president. They have encouraged wanna-be writers and talking heads to bloveate in the same hate vein thus spreading the venom.

In the long run they have also given the Senator more publicity and awakened more people determined to support her if she does make a presidential bid. But this particular circular firing squad has fired a nasty volley at one of their own gender and given aid and comfort to those Democrats who would rather hate than win.

And most tragically, they have won the praises and admiration of Karl Rove and all his friends in the White House for doing their job so brilliantly for them.

WORDIMESS

Just as Stephen Colbert created the word “truthiness”, we created “WORDIMESS”. Truthiness, in case you’ve missed this, is when something is said over and over in the hope that it will eventually come true – even though it is a lie.

Wordimess is any word a Democrat may utter in her/his speech or write in a column that Repugnants can frown on, take umbrage with or blame on President Clinton. They use them for cover when they have no response to what the Democrat said. It is to cloud the issue while they think up a truthiness.

Recent examples are when Senator Clinton used the word, PLANTATION and when New Oleans Mayor, Ray Nagin, used the word, CHOCOLATE. Repubs pretended they had the bejesus shocked out of them by these words and the media joined in to rev-up the wordimessing.

Of course they didn’t want to slam Mayor Ray for his ridiculous God phrases because that might make their religiosa faction unhappy so they focused on the one word and put forth their Black sycophants to beat up on the Mayor.

By constantly responding to any media question with their consternation over one word, they obliterated much of the import of the speaker’s other words or points. They also use wordimess to make it appear that the speaker is a racist, implying that no one would use the words plantation or chocolate unless they were.

In addition, this sort of fussy, nitpicking worrying of words takes up media time and forces the Dem’s remarks into the realm of absurdity. This has always been Rove’s plan – to keep everyone laughing at the Democrats.

So Dems that can’t stand the heat join with the Repugs and vote for Alito or criticize Dem speakers and the words they chose. This, of course leads to more jokes and laughter as the media picks it up and the late night comedians roll around with it in their mud baths. Thus goes our CIVILization.

“Why is it if we are all so well-educated and brilliant and gifted and artistic and idealistic and distinguished in scholarship, that we are so selfish and scheming and dishonest and begrudging and impatient and arrogant and disrespectful of others?”
-- M. C. Richards in the Tarrytown Letter [No. 49]

A Government of Wolves

There is a story about a little girl, Susan, whose parents were Democrats and a little boy, Jimmy, whose parents were Republican. Unmindful of political adversity, the children happily played together. One day the little girl came home with wet hair and damp clothing. Her mother asked her what happened.

She answered, “Oh, Jimmy and I went swimming.”
“But”, her mother responded, “You didn’t have your bathing suit.”
“No matter”, Susan replied, “we just took off our cloths… and you know what, mommy, I never knew there was such a difference between Democrats and Republicans.”

One cannot help but think that even if the Senate Alito Hearing Committee took off their cloths, with one exception, we would see little Party difference. Of course we know that Party differences are not based on genitalia.

But reproductive rights are. The huge majority of this Senate Panel and the Senate itself is male. Seldom if ever have males felt any need to insist on their reproductive rights – indeed, the opposite may be true in most cases.

Males do not have a uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina or significant amounts of estrogen and progesterone, yet they have a huge majority in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our federal government.

Males seldom have any need for birth control except as a health safety measure. They have never experienced a monthly menses or been conditioned from birth to play with dolls; to consider their bodies as traps for mates and baby ovens.

In point of fact, males are encouraged to think outwardly, to develop bonding with other men and to dress in uniform ie suit and tie, a dress code that excludes females. They are encouraged also to denigrate females, to train their body in sports and prepare to join the governing body of humanity – the adult male.

Males are trained to use their energy competing in sports with other men, but to establish solidarity with other males off the playing fields. Females are trained to put their energy into their own bodies and to compete with their bodies against other women for male attention. It is the sine qua non of fashion that any two women should NEVER dress the same – difference is emphasized to prevent female bonding.

Without even a modicum of body organs or sensations of what it is to be female, males are allowed to determine the legality of the most intimate of female bodily functions.

And women must take much of the blame for this. They allow their daughters to be called with silly-baby-stuffed animal names like Kitty or Candy or Daisy [can you imagine voting for a presidential candidate named Candy?]. They teach ignorant femininity over feminist strength and responsibility.

Despite the revolution of the late, great Woman’s Movement that liberated women from being “sexual objects”, allowed them to attend college and compete for non-traditional jobs, most women now are actually delighted to be objectified. To paraphrase Edward R. Murrow, Women who emulate “a nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.”

The few brave women that are working for women’s reproductive and other rights are to be commended. They little deserve the nasty criticism of women who have chosen to nurture their own lazy, uncaring minds; women who jeer from the sidelines at female candidates and then complain when their “rights” are trampled.

CEDAR TREE GIVES BUSH A BOO-BOO

We would never claim that it was our last article that sent Bush to a military hospital to award some Purple Hearts to a few deserving troops but if he hadn’t gone we might never have heard of his “combat” wound with an unpatriotic cedar.

It seems that he was talking to reporters at the hospital following his visit to the Purple Heart recipients and showed them the wound on his forehead. He said he got a wound in combat too like the soldiers – only it was with a tree. For a picture of this horrible wound, click here: http://www.gendergappers.blogspot.com/

Oheeeuuu!!! Tough trees, cedars. This fearsome encounter of Bush with a cedar tree appears to be a metaphor of his attitude toward humanity, and humanity’s toward him.

The cedar over the ages has been and is formidable in its construct and uses. It is food for birds that eat the cones and for deer that graze on the leaves in the winter. It is an excellent windbreak and bird habitat. The principal flavoring of gin is the cones of the cedar.

Of course everyone knows of its use in chests and cabinets where it discourages moths and insects, besides smelling great and lasting forever. Oil from the cedar is used in medicines, perfumes, disinfectants and in a variety of technical and medical work.

Also because of its resistance to bugs and microorganisms of the soil, it is in great demand for fence posts, log cabins, model construction, carving, flutes and of course Christmas trees.

It has always been sacred to Native Americans who know it to be exceptional in repulsing energies and in protection. It is used to ward off or drive off negative influences or spirits. – The Legend of the Cedar Tree

http://www.powersource.com/cocinc/articles/cedar.htm

Here we have a tree, the cedar, that is widely spread over America with many and varied abilities, shapes and talents – just like Americans. And sadly we also have a man whose mission in life is wiping them both out.

Sadder still is the fact that American voters put him in a position where he could do this. A pity that he does not read, other wise he might have come across this poem by a man who really was wounded, mortally wounded, in action, Sgt. Joyce Kilmer, 165th infantry, WWI.

Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

- Joyce Kilmer

[Kilmer was mortally wounded by a sniper's bullet on July 30 during the second Battle of the Marne. Only thirty-one years old, Kilmer died that day in the village of Seringen. Buried in the Military Cemetery at Fere-en-Tardenois in France, he was awarded the Croix de Guerre by France.]

PURPLE FINGERS, PURPLE HEARTS

No matter what anyone may think, there is no war in Iraq – that’s an oil takeover; there is no war against terrorists – that’s a global disease. The real and only war is the war of words. A war Americans have been shown to be ill-equipped to fight.

The goal of this word war is to influence and control minds using words that have been shown to be heavy artillery in this contest. They affect many people by turning off any sort of critical mental oversight.

Examples of these words are 9/11, victory, winners, God, patriot, Democracy, life, terrorist, protect, WMD, secure, mushroom cloud and freedom, but there are many others.

Nearly everyone saw the attack and subsequent information on September 11th. They saw pictures of the hijackers who crashed the planes into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and an open field.

They were shown these pictures over and over along with the information that the attack was planned by a Saudi, Osama bin Laden, leader of al Qaeda. Names and nationalities of the hijackers were constantly repeated – most were from Saudi Arabia, but none of them were IRAQI!

Yet by repeating the words terrorist and 9/11 and Iraq in the same context or even sentences, Bush and Cheney convinced otherwise intelligent people that Iraq’s Saddam Hussain was a major force in the leadership of the terrorist who swiped and crashed the planes.

By using words tying Saddam to nuclear bombs and chemical warfare, Bush and Cheney convinced the majority of Americans that the country was in eminent danger unless Iraq was invaded and Saddam removed.

Why do so many Americans fail to critically examine things they hear? Take for example the oft recited claim that “We must fight them there [[raq] so we don’t have to fight them here [America].”

This is just one example of the often apposing, always conflicting messages given to the American people, many of whom hear just the scary part and feel afraid and want to be protected. They do not hear the threat to their freedom and their Constitution.

They see the purple fingers waving in the air in Iraq and hear the Bushie’s words: freedom, democracy, removed evil dictator, victory, we are the greatest etc. So the father-knows-best mantra goes on and on, carefully coloring minds with conflicting and confusing thoughts of fear and pride – blanking out reason and other words.

Other words like Purple Heart, reminding us of the terrible loss of limbs and eyes; the pain and grief of so many. Words that blank out both word and sight of flag draped coffins, preemptive war and the laws to protect the Constitution and the country.

Think carefully. We all have seen the waving purple fingers all over the media and referenced in every Bush speech, but are we ever shown a ceremony where one of our brave Iraqi war veterans was honored for service with a Purple Heart?

Have you ever wondered why?

THE RUNNING OF THE BULL$

Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire, burn; and caldron, bubble. [Macbeth]

The news has become more than ever like the sound of children arguing, complaining, whining and positioning. “You did it!” “No, you did it first!” “I’m telling!” “I’m impeaching!” Circus Smirkus is in town and all the clowns are loose.

From Huffpo:
Kennedy: “This Is Big Brother Run Amok“… Salazar: “This Is That Wake-Up Call“… Feinstein: “Most Significant Thing I Have Heard In My 12 Years”… Lawmakers Demand Probe… Decision To Withhold Story Caused Friction At The Times… Times Defends Decision… Bush Approved Eavesdropping Over Three Dozen Times… ”To Do It Without The Participation Of The Congress And The Courts Is Unwise In The Extreme”… ”I Was Frankly Astonished…My Head Is Spinning”…

Why is everyone so surprised? He’s been a liar and a crook since day one.

Cafferty [CNN]: “Who cares if the Patriot Act get's renewed. Want to abuse our civil liberties- Just do it! Who cares about the Geneva conventions? Want to torture prisoners-Just do it! Who cares about rules concerning the identity of CIA agents? Want to reveal the name of a covert operative? Just do it!
Who cares about whether the intelligence concerning WMD's is accurate. You want to invade Iraq? Just do it. Who cares about qualifications to serve on the nation's highest court. Want to nominate a personal friend with no qualifications? Just do it.And the latest outrage, which I read about in "The New York Times" this morning, who cares about needing a court order to eavesdrop on American citizens. Want to wiretap their phones conversations? Just do it.... What a joke. A very cruel, very sad joke.”
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/12/16.html#a6350

It’s the same all over whether you read the news, listen to the news or watch the news. The DC crowd of legislators, lobbyists, talking heads and civil servants are embroiled in another juicy scandal, a dwarf tossing match of presidential proportions.

Republicans are falling back as usual on their mantra of blame for the Clinton Administration; saving the country from terrorism and flexing their war muscles while spreading impotent testosterone showers over all. The same fever has infected the blogs and political lists. Republicans, getting their talking points from Father CinC and RNC, balance between rational response and snarling at the Democratic pests chewing and snapping at their legs.

But best and most entertaining bull of all is watching the Democrat’s grassroots snorting and pawing the ground while flinging the soil of their vulnerability and frustration in all directions as they praise a political hero one minute just to curse her/him the next.

A Dem. legislator criticizes Bush in a strong statement and the list/blog posts support her as a presidential candidate. A Dem senator suggests impeach Bush and the posts cry out, “make him the candidate for president” as they dump on their previous choice nastily.

Another legislator explains that the Repugs control the House and the Dems cannot bring on an impeachment process and the blogs and lists comment, “Coward – just like a Democrat to back down.”

So on the Dem Grassroots go, powerless and futile, bobbing and weaving, chasing a charisma or a mirage in nearly mindless rage at their own impotency brought on mainly by lack of money and power – the twin evils and legal tender of Democracy.

What a darling sight for the Gods of Winter Solstice, Christian Christmas, Jewish Hanukkah, African Kwanza et al. The constant running of the bull$, regarding the Dem candidate du jour, rivals the pain, ignorance and slaughter of Pamplona, Spain’s famous Running.

NEANDERTHAL FOLLIES

We just don’t get it. The system executed Tookie for his past crimes which included murder. There was no credit given by the law for his good deeds following his arrest.

He was tried and convicted; given years of appeals while he reformed himself and influenced young people to stay out of gangs. Admirable on the face of it but when the appeals ran out, so did Tookie. He faced the law and the law won.

Just what are the parameters for punishment? We ask because there’s a guy in this country that is responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people. Most of them did nothing to him or to his people; he did it just for the joy of conquest, his ego.

True most of these deaths were foreigners, just a couple of thousand or so were Americans, and they all occurred over in some foreign country that pissed off this guy; some kind of towel-heads who weren’t born again Christians.

But the guy did terrible things in his own country too. He waged legal wars against the poor, the elderly, the infirm and the children. He let a whole culture suffer horribly while he dug into the pockets of the rich for more money for his political cronies.

The rich owed him for cutting their taxes to the bone; for allowing them to outsource their products to avoid more tax; for allowing them to send American jobs to other countries where they could exploit people already living in poverty. Payback for the immense profits that accrued from his wars.

And despite a deaf and dumb media, the crimes of this man were so huge and so horrible that an American Jury, the voters, his peers, came to realize how he had lied to them; how he sent their children off to die in a foreign country for his own ego.

So, by several polls, he was tried and found guilty by nearly three-quarters of the country. And yet he still appeals because he claims that the economy is bustling and soon everyone will have victory and 2 or 3 SUV’s. Still many of the jury forgot about his massive crimes because the Constitution is a “god-damned piece of paper”.

And as he goes around the country with lies and more lies, he spreads fear; fear of disease, fear of terror … But their greatest fear is fear of losing, fear of not winning his war, fear that they are losing their macho image, fear of themselves.

He keeps them desperately afraid of thinking,; of expressing the values of their religious beliefs and honoring their historic past. And the guy knows his Neanderthal Americans. He has revved up his propaganda machine to turn the jury once more in his favor – to turn them into fellow conspirators through their own belief in being tough.

Tough trumps everything for the Neanderthal-American who believes that brawn always beats brains. There is a battle going on now between them and Americans who side with logic, reason and reality.

“Toughness defined in a strictly physical way does not always achieve victory. Might does not make right, nor does it always make everything right. And it is not unmanly to say that. Might makes right is the credo of the warrior. But there is simple power in right as might. It is the power of great leaders in religion and politics, from Jesus Christ to Martin Luther King. Throughout history, brave men and women have taken the high moral ground. Only in America today do we dare call them wimps.” http://www.commondreams.org/views05/1211-21.htm

Will the rule of law prevail and cause Americans to defy their Neanderthalic attitudes or will the Erectus people of the 21st. century and their institutions of law finally get off their knees to rise up and do the political equivalent of a Tookie on this guy and his fellow Neanderthals?

MEDIA STILL A’ROVIN’

It should be safe to say that the present Bush administration, led by Rove and the Neo-cons, planned, plotted and started the preemptive war in Iraq. It should be safe and for awhile there it seemed that the media understood this.

Yes, it seemed that they had finally caught up to the facts right in front of their eyes and the mood of the American people. Sure, it was late in coming but it did seem as if they were really trying to report the news instead of what Rove told them to report.

Certainly there is plenty to investigate and write about just from the latest Commission’s report that gave the Bushies low marks for preparedness, telling us that the homeland is not secure even after all these years and dollars.

And the media people must be aware that although there were Democrats who voted to give Bush latitude to fight terrorists that it did not mean they were for the preemptive Iraq war. Also, most of them voted to support the troops that Bush had already committed to Iraq.

Now most all of the Democrats, as well as most people in the country, want and intelligent drawdown of our troops; they want the National Guard back doing its job in its own state and they want attention paid to the many problems here at home.

As clear as this is, many in the media are going after another wild hare. A hare planted by Karl Rove to keep them away from the scent of the Bush debacle in Iraq and how badly it is turning out.

That hare is ludicrous to those who do not blindly go a’Rovin after any and everything that falls from Karl’s lips. That hair would get short shrift from any thinking journalist.

That hair is all over the shows with talking heads who are speculating and lamenting on the fact that all Democrats are not united on how to pull out of Iraq. Whoa! What is that about? The Dems haven’t the majority to change policy and for that matter, THE REPUGS WHO DO ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT EITHER.

The media mavens know that but still blindly parrot Rove who wants everyone to forget what Howard Dean so eloquently frames as he goes all over the country:
"What we see today is very much like what was going in Watergate," Dean said. "It turns out there is a lot of good evidence that President Bush did not tell the truth when he was asking Congress for the power to go to war. The President said last week that Congress saw the same intelligence that he did in making the decision to go to war, and that is flat out wrong. The President withheld some intelligence from the Senate Intelligence Committee. He withheld the report from the CIA that in fact there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq), that they did not have a nuclear program. They (the White House) selectively gave intelligence to the United States Senate and the United States Congress and got them to give the go ahead to attack these people." http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=C36A87B9-63A0-4CDE-AA91-B41571AFD3AF

Rove hates the damage that the clarity of truth causes so he calls his media palls and puts a wild hairy bug in their ear and they go racing off in all directions yelling and baying on a false scent. Not to be outdone or scooped, the rest of the journalist pack take up the baying with scant idea of what it’s all about.

So now the blame for everything is again placed on the Democrats because they “don’t agree about what to do about Iraqi problems.” Problems they had little to do with creating. And as Rove pushes these buttons on the media, the rest of the Republican chorus weep, wail, cry traitor and generally act like the proverbial fair maiden violated.

And as usual, Lieberman is generally making a stupid ass of himself, securing his place as Bush’s #1 butt boy.
Lieberman yesterday: “It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation’s peril.” 12/6/05
Murtha today: “Undermining his credibility? What has he said that would give him credibility?” - 12/7/05

Solution for the Democrats and the country: “Declare victory and leave”. So said Senator George Aiken of Vermont when the country faced a similar situation in Vietnam.

ALL THE KING’S HORSES AND…

It seems as if many in the media are working hard at pushing the idea that Humpty Dumpty-Iraq may have hada great fall but like the South he will rise again. The media have been and still are the work horses of the RepubliKing.

Those king’s horses have their job cut out for them because many of the king’s men are doing serious damage to the image of the Bush persona, that is, that he is an honest leader with an honest government.
WayneMadsenReport.com Nov. 28, 2005: STATE BY STATE GOP SCANDAL SCORECARD http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/gopscorecard.htm
The worst criminals of all the media-horses are those that have consistently covered up the many Bush lies about Humpty-Iraq until just recently when the stench got so bad that they couldn’t breath. Suddenly these columnists discovered what Democrats have been saying since the Florida debacle.
Instead of honestly admitting that they had been wrong, they join in the chorus of the “misled”, pretending that they have just discovered what has been going on right under their noses. That they do this with no shame or remorse is worst than criminal, it is contemptuous.
Two of the most consistent loyalist horses to the King are still the Hardball hardhead, Chris Matthews and his girl Friday, Nora O’Donnell, who continue to make comments like this:
MATTHEWS: I like him. Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left -- I mean – like him personally. From the November 28 edition of MSNBC's Hardball. As Media Matters for America previously reported, MSNBC chiefWhite House correspondent Norah O'Donnell made a similarlyunsupported statement on the November 27 broadcast of MSNBC's TheChris Matthews Show, claiming that Bush has retained his "authenticity" with the public.
Chris Matthews used variations of the word "brilliant" twice to describe Bush’s Navel Academy speech, while deriding Democratic critics of the Iraq war as "carpers and complainers."
Even worse than the felonious Republican king’s men are Democrat king’s men like Joe Lieberman who continues to support King Bush. It seems we dodged a bullet when the election was stolen in 2000. Old Joe is tighter than a tick with Bush and his world-domination-by-war-policy.
Still the real problem remains as the country is drained of its young women and men; its wealth and its reputation just to keep Humpty-Iraq from falling off the wall. The surfs, the uncommon, common folk want the King to pull our troops out and let Humpty-Iraq stand or fall on its own.
Many of the King’s men, who have escaped scandals, have joined the opposition Democrats in calling for a planned downsizing of troops with a gradual withdrawing of influence. They read the polls and want to be reelected.
The King now is perched shakily on a wall of his own making. He gives lip service to a drawdown but his heart is still into ruling the world and bringing the infidels to Democracy under his dictatorship.
He has lost the support of many of his men and many of his horses. Now his future balance on the White House wall may rest on the fate of Humpty Dumpty-Iraq. But things can quickly change as the King has many media-horses poised to sweep him to safety on the wings of spin.
